ART Tube MP

Is this a good tube preamp? I might buy it to amplify my Apex 435 condenser cause i'm simply tired of using my Behringer pre's...just horrible! too much noise and no clarity. so guys, how is this preamp?

It's not bad at all, I mean it's a cheap mic pre but it does a lot for a small price. It's OK on vocals, not much to write home about. I actually use mine more as a DI box for bass (love it for that), and when using a non-kick mic to mic bass drums. It can get noisy if you really crank the gain to push the "tube", but for what you pay for it, you do get some decent performance.

a good pre........ no, not so much.
is it cheep and will it do the job? yes, probably little better than the berri.

i reccomend staying out of tOob pre's if you don't have much to spend.

Can u guys suggest an option for me:

1) Upgrade my Apex 435 mic to a Studio Projects B1 or B3

OR

2) Upgrade my behringer pre's to the ART tube MP.

Which one would i benefit off more?

On the bright side you should find it to be a hell of a lot more musical sounding than the Behringer... but is it a "good" [as in "well designed and implemented"] tube pre-amplifier? Nah, it's a cheap piece of shit that is a good interim tool until you can get yourself a real tube [not "toob"] pre-amp.

In it's price range it's one of the better buys for something that has a 'glowy thing' inside... in the world of "Tube Pre-Amps" it's a joke.

i use the a r t tube pre and for the price it's nice....they are only like 49 bucks......it wouldnt be a bad thing to have one lying around for something different

For what its worth, Id scratch the ART and get a better mic first. The difference in quality may not be worth the money you spend on it,in my opinion. Like these guys said, save your cash for something better. I wish I would have. Later on down the road, youll be glad you did.

I have an ART Tube MP but I find it's noisy and adds an element of treble/distortion that I don't want. I just want exactly what I put into the mic.

MP as a DI

I have begun to experiment with the MP as a DI for my guitar into amplifiers which sound either too digital or have a too weak preamp so that my signal is often rather brittle or weak or both.
I find that the MP as an intermediary step helps my sound a lot.
It introduces some low level noice, which with many of my amps is not a significant issue.
I have one velcrowed to the top of one of my amps, and connected with a short interconnect cable, and am very happy with it.
I think it is a remarkable product at this price point.
I am not an expert or an audioengineer, but as a home hobbiest, am very impressed.
I use other better peramps for mic amplification.
