I don't know if the search is broken or what but I was looking for some info on this preamp and couldn't find much. I have used quite a bit of gear but never really had a chance to hear this pre in action. I know a guy really hurting to sell his stuff and he is selling an almost brand new one for like 200 bucks but I only have till sunday. I know in the store they are like 499.00 but want some opinions about it.

Thanks in advance,

Buy it at that price! You will have no regrets (although, ametth, who recently became a gear snob....:)) didn't really like it. But don't let his taste guide you.

I have some work that recieved some very favorable responses that used the Pro MP on it. A very nice unit in that price range.

The Axis

The MPA pro has always interested me also, but I haven't heard one. The user opinions range from "fabulous" to "terrible". Is there somone who has heard it and compared to some other units that can elaborate on the sound ?

Rick

The Pro Mp and the MPA are two totally different units right?

Yeah that got me too, I remembered the original ART Tube MP, or whatever it was called and I thought all these posts were about that unit, just yesterday I went looking for a pre with S/PDIF outs and came across a whole bunch of ART MP pres, some rackmount some with VU meters, I think there are at least 3 different models and now I don't know which post/review refers to which one.

Thanks for the link but I hate reading reviews for things because 90% of the time its the same thing they don't say anything bad for fear of losing the advertising. I was hoping for some users here on the bbs to give me some feedback on it..... But again thanks for the link..

gear snob checking in

I think for that price, you really cant pass it up. It seems you dont wanna spend more, so go for it! I can tell you my opinions on it, but what good is that? Anyway, listen to some of Ed's work with the pre and you'll hear what a great engineer can do with mediocre gear. Good luck.

ametth, ametth, ametth.......

I don't get it!

I usually throw a 4033 in front of the singer usually between 12" and 18" running to a ART Dual MP and straight to ADAT (well, I use the ART Dual Levelar too if they are a bit up and down dynamically). The results are pretty damn good. I try to use short cable runs for everything too.

I don't see how this is "great engineering". I just think the gear is capable of damn fine results!

Have used PRO MPA, Tube MP and Tube Channel ART products like them all, like that price, is that the bid or ask price? Buy on the down tick.......

Well I am picking it up middle of this week, I figure for 200 bucks if I don't like it i'll just ebay it. Oh and about this:
"""It seems you dont wanna spend more, so go for it!""

Well Ametth I'm not quite sure what you meant by that or why you thought I didnt want to spend more. I just found what seemed like a good deal on some equipment I had never used and thought I would ask some opinions and try it out. I don't really need another pre I have a rack full of Joemeek, Mindprint, and Avalon pres, would just be nice to have another 2, you can never have too many Mics or Preamps ;-). Anyway I'll let you know what I think after I use it for a week or so....

I got an MPA, and am happy with it. Seems to me it sound better than the MP.

Hey Nash,

I have kind of had my eyes on one of those babies myself. Once you get it, let me/us know what you think of it. I would love to find a deal like that because the cheapest I have seen it is $439 at 8th street. MF is asking more than $100 more for it (whats up with that).

Peace
Joe

I've got some nice pres and this thing rates right up there in the middle of the road section of pres, maybe even a little on the upperside. I was totally suprised by the performance and quietness of it. Goodluck..
