I tracked drums and bass today. Four songs. 9 Tracks per song. Multiple takes. I did not even realize until now, when I decided to mix them a little that they were stereo tracks and not mono. I applied a mono compressor and was wondering why it only worked on the left side. I ussualy have the defualt 'add audio track' on mono mode, but it added all stereo and im a moron! ;)

Anyway should I convert them to mono? Or just deal with them in stereo? They were all mono sources. Mics / bass. I've got 9 tracks. Im using SX3.

Thanks guys!
Josh

I'd imagine you'd have to otherwise everything will be coming out of your left speaker.

What software do you mix in?
Most will have an option to only use one channel of a stereo file. For example in Vegas, I can right click on a clip of audio, go to "Channels" and select left only or right only. Try right clicking on one of the clips and have a dig around in that menu.

its cubase sx3 I looked around a bit for things but could not find anything like that. I have stereo plugins as well though.

You can bounce them down (to new tracks- don't know what cubase calls it) as dual mono. There's also some free plugs out there I believe that will split them.
What's the down side, uses up more processor?

if it's cubase just go into the pool, select the tracks, right click and convert to mono

Why convert. 1/2 the world is gnashing their teeth about how they wished they'd recorded in stereo.
Take the advantage & do things with it One bass channel for definition with a high pass filter & the other for the bottom with the opposite etc & tweaking will be easier.
Play with it - there must've been a reason for the accident.

What, having doubles of tracks? One it ain't stereo', it's two of the same thing. It'd likely be easier to do what your saying if they were two monos...
Now that we we're back to where he wants to go in the first place.. ;)
