Are you suffering from digital stress :D

Anyone could easily argue that this is an "all in your head" sort of thing, and if they want to, be my guest.

But, since I stopped listening to the radio a few years ago, and mostly listen to records, I find myself getting annoyed when I hear music on TV, radio, or even a lot of my own CD's now. There's just something wrong with the sound.

This is important to note because I'm a part of that "digital generation" who really only knows digital music. But the more studio production work I do, the more I hear the harshness of digital in everyday recordings.

I didn't have a chance to read that item in a lot of detail (on the face of it it just looked like a 'snake oil' ad) but 'listener fatigue' in relation to FM broadcast is well documented.

A lot of the earliest digital processors like the Optimod 8200 had major issues with listener fatigue, especially when pushed hard. Female listeners tend to be more susceiptible to fatigue (although there are arguements over this point - some pointing out that the problem is more about having 45 year old males setting up the processing), and the whole fatigue aspect is a big selling point with processors like the Aphex 2020, which processes in the analogue domain but with digital control.

Listener fatigue is less of an issue with later Optimod and omnia broadcast processors, but can still come in when any processor (even the analogue ones) is pushed hard.
