Do they have 20 Bit Dats? We are thinking of bouncing tracks from our ADAT xt20s (20 bit), to a DAT and then putting some new tracks down on the adats but I dont want to go down to 16 bit, any info?

Thanks!

Tascam has the DA-45HR, which is 24-bit... I don't recall ever seeing 20-bit DATs...............

What happens when you bounce from 20 bit adat to a 24 bit dat, and then back to a 20 bit adat? Is there a noticeable effect?

when you move from 20 to 24 bits the last 4 bits will be filled with 0s, and be silence. When you send the 24 bit data back to the ADAT you can set it to eiher dither the 24 bits to 20, or to just truncate the last 4. Since you originally only tacked on 4 bits of 0s, just set the ADATs to truncate and you will have the same signal still.

p.s. - a 24 bit DAT machine will probably cost as much as another XT20. They are going for very cheap used now.
