I have alot of gear Im saving up for, Im constantly buying and adding stuff to my arsenal.
pedals,mesa,compressor,mic,monitors
and so on.
i have about 2-3 grand to go till ill have everything.

im also REALLY conserned with tone though. anyways, this guys giving me a deal on new monster cables. 4 for $100, (normally 4 for $160)

I was wondering...should i go with the monster cords to improve tone or should i invest it in a well needed pedal or sumthin?

are expensive brand cords just hype, or could i go out and buy semi-expensive cords and still get close to the bigger brand quality for tone.

HELP

DB,

> are expensive brand cords just hype

Yes. Very cheap guitar cables might possibly lose some high frequencies if the cable is very long, but generally any guitar cord that costs $100 is a rook.

Don't buy Monster. They're overpriced and unreliable. I spent over a $100 on two guitar cables 2 years ago. The more expensive one shorted in just under 8 months and the cheaper shorted last week. Neither had been taken out on the road and both were used only in my house. I've had radioshack cables last longer than that. It was a major dissappointment to say the least....what a waste of money. Stick with switchcraft and the like. Canare also makes a damn good cable for the money. You and your audience will have a hard time distinguishing between a $100 monster cable and a cheaper Canare, Mogami, Whirlwind ect... Save your money for gear worth having.

For short cable runs just about any decently constructed cable will function fine. If you are using them in an environment where they will be subject to a lot abuse then go for better cables.

Several companies offer lifetime warranties so if it breaks just take it back.

Those monsters are replaced for free, even if you arent the original buyer.

you can take any monster back to any dealer that sells them and they give you a new one.

As long as the cable is of heavy gauge, you should be ok. Monster is a ripoff if you ask me. They do have "better" cables than standards, but the difference is negligable. It's like buying "premium" air for $99 instead of free air.

I have been using the Planet Waves mic cables after liking the guitar ones so much. So far, so good.

Believe it or not, Home Depot has some very good quality speaker cable and other cable that can be made into Guitar cables. I bought stock 1/4" ends and wired my entire studio using homemade cables and really it sounds fine.
