Apogee duet 2 or GAP pre 73 for my Shure SM7b?

I already have an eleven rack with KRK rokits 5.
So for bass and guitars I'm using the 11r.
For drums we did them with SSD 3.5 and a roland v-drum.
We want to start doing the vocals in the next few weeks but I'm still not sure if I should get a GAP pre 73 mic preamp and use it my 11r or get an apogee duet 2.
 
Whoa. I would first get yourself an interface with decent gain before choosing between those you listed.
 
I'm not sure you can use a Duet and an eleven rack at the same time. How did you record the drums? Midi? Sounds like you are going to want to get a multi-channel interface with 8-16 tracks, not a little 4x2 like the duet.
 
When I did the drums I had a saffire pro 24 dsp that I sold when I received my eleven rack because there was no difference in sound.
For drums I use a roland v-drum in my saffire but I can do this with the eleven rack.
Why couldn't I use the apogee duet 2 and the eleven rack?
I could use the apogee as my audio interface and the 11r xlr or 1/4 out to the apogee 1/4 in?
The apogee is 75db of gain and the gap pre 73 is 80.. should be enough for the shure sm7b?
 
60 db is sufficient for the 7B. The Apogee seems a ridiculously expensive unit for mac users IMO. You can get 20 times the interface flexibility for that amount of money.
 
I won't be using more than 2 inputs at once and mac users seems to really like the apogee duets for it's mic preamps and AD converters. (I'm new to mac since last may).
I ordered my shure sm7b last week and haven't received it yet but want to start using it as soon as I get it, most post on different forums say that 60db is the minimum for the sm7b and often need more.
 
I run my sm7b at around 50-55db on my firepod and it works perfectly. Apogee is known for their excellent pres and a/d/a though. If I could afford their stuff I would for sure buy it
