OK, this was a blast. Here is my 2 hour attempt at mixing in Samplitude, I don't have any plug-ins yet. I used the eq, comp, & effects in samp, maybe I used a little more than I should've but I guess that's why they call them effects.

I have a real good feeling you'll like how this sounds ;)

its located here

http://simonwordz.dmusic.com/

lol i added some adlibs to certain parts of the vocals, chopped out some parts n delayed it a bit, sounded real nice, its real faint, mostly u can only hear it at the end of the song.. :)

Its the only song on there, hope you dont mind but i called it " Its like " thats just what i thought of it after hearing it.. I enjoyed the song by the way too, I appreciate all aspects of music.. Good stuff

It was a pretty fast mix.. Hope you enjoy.. Gluck to all :)

ps: its really early where i am so I couldnt turn it up too loud to get a good listen on it, let me know.. again enjoy....

Give it another try, I just tested both links and they download for me. I have my mix v2.0 uploading, they were super trebley. Damn you computer speakers!

Here's my second version. Deleted the old one so the above link is dead.
Added another verse. It's now 3:20 long... changes from first version are:
More dums, re did the bass line after I added the verse and chilled the low end a bit since it was way to intense. Also dried up the main vocal a touch, doubled the main vocal during chorus parts by using the other chorus part with each one. Fixed the one spot where the vocals are a little sharp and mixed the female voice a little farther back in the mix. Enjoy....

DAFFY... you stole my idea! I thought the drums should kick in as well as maybe a distorted guitar... something along the lines of A Perfect Circle type sound.

Yea.. I thought some sort of electric guitar would be cool in the main parts of the song. In the bridge part after the chorus I'm hearing some soaring 2 part guitar harmonies that are similar to what he played on the second guitar track. If you remember that old cutting crew tune.. "died in your arms tonight" or something like that... That kinda guitar harmony would be cool (only a different melody obviously). Might take a crack at it but the strings on my Charvel are shot and I need to grab some new ones...

Dear everyone,

I am truly touched by how much effort has been put into this. I'm surprised by how much I've learned about my own song!

I've listened to every version (except a couple links that haven't worked) multiple times, and they each have their own charm. If no one objects, I am planning on leaving this open for a while longer. As long as there is interest, I will keep listening.

Thank you everyone. I hope you're all enjoying it as much as I am.

Sincerely,
Kirk Whitney

pick a winner kdog!

man this is sweet. I think this kind of thing is a big help to beginners like me. I found 13th_Omen's picture very helpful.

It would be cool if this could be all on one page with comments as to why things were done, like EQ and that kind of thing. Pic's would be cool to. It would be easier to compare.

I am prolly asking to much but I really enjoyed this. I listened to all of them to day.

thanks all

I could throw a summary page on my website with pics. we could throw the mp3s up at on of the mp3 sites. that would be up to Kdogg

We could do this at some point. I think it would be fun for all those who participated. I'd like to wait until we get them all submitted, then perhaps only have the page accessible to those who submitted. What do you guys think?

P.S. Don't worry Larry. I'm not going to pick a winner for a while longer.

I think that it would be a good idea, however, I think that you might want to make it accessible to all of the Homerec'ers. The beauty of this exercise is that everyone worked from the same original wav files and went off in different directions with different gear and approaches. This is not a very common thing to happen so it is a great experiment that some of the beginners would find a lot of value in.

As far as putting together a write up of how we approached the mix, I think that this is a good idea and I am willing to provide some additional detail. If someone has the Web Space then we could do it there. Otherwise, I can do it on my eathlink account and someone could link from there.

Perhaps Waldo can help out here? If he would let you set up on NoWhereRadio a page where you could put all the versions, that would be a good way for people to listen to the mixes.

I have unlimited server space and it has high bandwidth, so I could host all the versions, and mix details if you like. I can't stream though so it would be download only. Let me know and I'll set something up.

I don't know how to stream. I think it requires some code or a program or something to do what Waldo does with NWR. If you can tell me how to do it, I'll be more than happy to set that up.
