Anyone wanna do a collaboration recording?

So right now you have the guitar and bass tracks finished right? Is there a zip file somewhere with the guitar, bass and the scratch track all together? I would like to see if I could do anything with it drumwise, just for fun. I can DL the guitar track and the scratch track but I honestly dont have a clue as to how to line them all up so I was hoping the tracks were all together somewhere.

All the tracks have been graciously hosted by NL5... He has the instructions somewhere earlier in the threads on how to access them...
I DL'd all the tracks this morning and did a quick listen and, unfortunately, it looks like there's going to have to be some minimal synching to get things to line up to each other and with the original scratch/drums... (Except Purge's "intro" guitar solo... That's perfect right where it is... lol)
I'm going to go ahead and line things up tonight before I record the new drums... Then when I upload the finished tracks, the ZIP will include ALL instruments as they have been recorded so far...
If anyone wants to add or embellish from that point on, it can be done within the full package which will insure all future tracks will fall right into place (as long as they reupload their version of the package and not just their track(s) playing along, or an edited version of an actual track from the package would work as well....)
Just a couple of milliseconds between two fingers hitting 'record' on separate decks just seems to screw things up... picky, picky, picky...

Why not go with 7 tracks of cowbell and 1 snare track? I think that should more than cover the drums.

Cool. I will just wait till tomorrow and grab the whole thing after its all lined up.

alright.

well im gonna go ahead and do drum tracks for fun. might find them usefull for a certain section of the song. im no amazing drummer though, but i can lock a beat.

ill try and get it done today, but ive got a few clients calling wanting to come in and do somethings, so i dont know when i will get around to it.

This is what ill be using and bringing to the table

Track 1 - 20" Kick - Sennheiser e602, Senn MD421
Track 2 - 20" Kick - Outside, Studio Projects C1
Track 3 - 14" Snare Top - Shure SM57, Senn e604, Senn MD421
Track 4 - 14" Snare Bottom - AT4050, or AKG C414
Track 5 - Hi Hat - MXL 603, AT4033
Track 6 - 10" Tom - Sennheiser e604, AKG C408
Track 7 - 12" Tom - Sennheiser e604, AKG C408
Track 8 - 16" Tom - Sennheiser MD421
Track 9 - Left OH - AKG C414, AT4050
Track 10 - Right OH - AKG C414, AT4050
Track 11 - Ride Cymbal - MXL603, AT4033
Track 12 - Room Mic - AT4050, AT4033, MXL v67

This will give everyone options. You dont have to use everything, but it might might some cool effects. This could be a great learning experience or those with limited inputs and mics for doing drums.

I only have one cymbal. Its a nice one but, i feel i need more to give it a few more angles, but it will work. If i need to i will just throw some sample cymbals in their to give it variety :D.

Alright ill let you know when i get it posted.

I should have some time to lay down the tracks tonight (cross fingers)....

In regards to finished tracks, what are we looking for, stereofield-wise?

For our stuff, I usually mix right into the modules and fine tune before I get to the console... For this project, it sounds like folks want to have control over all mixing aspects, so I'll be breaking out the drums into individual tracks....

Normally, for acoustic drum recording, the only true stereo panning I do is on the overheads... I will mic the primaries (kick, snare, toms, etc) and put them on their own mono tracks, utilizing any left/right panning during mix-down for stereo creation. With the digitals, we're open to pretty much any possibility tho....

Here's what/how I'm thinking about recording/posting them:

1. Kick
2. Snare
3. Hi-Hat
4. Ride
5. Hi Toms
6. Low Toms
7. Right Cymbals
8. Left Cymbals

That'll be 8 tracks of drums and allow full artistic license for folks to mix down as they see fit...

Or I could just center the kick and snare individually, set up a stereo track capturing all the toms, another capturing hats/ride, and a 3rd stereo for the cymbals... Less control at mixdown that way tho...

Thoughts?
My vote is to record it as close to an acoustic setup as possible. I don't think the toms on separate tracks is really going to add anything to the overall sound.

Also, I had problems lining up your first tracks to the scratch mp3 that scrubs did. When I did my bass and the two distorted guitar tracks, it was off his scratch, with Purge's guitar mixed to it. I had to cut the open space off the beginning of his tracks to get them to line up, in case anyone needs to know. But they will line up nicely after that. I guess the different recording media is making this somewhat of a challenge, but it's coming together nicely. Please tell me if there are any problems with my tracks, so that I can compensate and fix them.

If you guys need someone to mix the tracks for you guys im up for it..im not the best by far but im up for giving it a shot...IM on aim Rufiochris581 if interstead:)

OK....

I'm pulling all the tracks out of the VF16 now...

Sorry it took so long, but synching up all the various instruments took longer than I wanted it to... Some things were a few measures back, some were ahead... But I think I've got them all now... (including Purge's orphaned solo)

It's late and I have to be up again in a few hours, so I only had time for one take and one quick listen after I configured the various outputs and tracks... I think it should be fine, but reserve the right to post it in the 'Give us your worst' thread at my discretion... lol

I'll be uploading the whole package as soon as it's in the 'puter...

Please, please, please... Any further changes need to be done either on existing tracks or added to the full package... Do not make an mp3 of the song and then play along to it recording a killer trombone part and then upload only that new track and expect it to synch up...
If you throw all the waves into the mixer/editor of your choice and THEN create a new file within your mixer, that should be fine...

OK... I think I'm rambling...
I'll rename the various tracks to their descriptive titles and start the upload.. and then off to bed...
The file will be called Full_NoVox.zip or sumpin along those lines...

Niters...

So all the files will be in one big zip file (drums, bass, guitars)???

Or just your drums and the mp3 you mixed? It would be nice if they were all in one folder. It would make downloading it a bit easier...

All the various collab files are synched and in one 160 meg zip file that is uploading as we... errr... type...

Cool, so I can look in about an hour, then... ;)

As it sits now (sans vocals) there are 13 tracks... 8 drums, 2 distorted guitars, one delay guitar, one rotary guitar and bass...
I've included the scratch vocal track in the zip file as well...

Just unzip that badboy, dump it all into your various mixing tools and knock yerselves out!

I'm going to bed, you coming Halle?

OK, I'm going to get that bad boy...

And, uh... I thought tonight was my night with Halle? What gives? :D

I've tried twice to download the file and got an error, corrupt file....

Hmmm.... I'll throw the files on a CD and try and upload again from work

I'm uploading a full2_novox.... Just in case, I'll have the files on a CD when I go to work too... (Faster upload there...)
