Anyone tried the Carvin kickdrum mic?

Any impressions of the Carvin/Nady mic? Is it something I should consider to replace the SM57 I've got on the kick now? Is it a reasonable alternative to the much pricier D112?

A while back I bought a pair of MXL-603's for $130 (based on a number of positive reviews here) and was hoping to find a similar low-buck option for the kickdrum.

Well, what kind of kick sound are you after? The SM57 was used by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers asa kick mic on Blood Sugar Sex Magick...(Songs like Suck my Kiss) and that'sa faierly thumping Kick sound.

The Carvin would probably do better on the low end.

Hell, buy one and try it for 5 days-if you don't like it, send it back.
It may be exactly what you are looking for.

Well these are kind of hard to find these days, but I just got a Peavey 520i. It is a hell of a kick drum mic and would well in other applications too I bet. I think you can find at least one review on it here.

I can tell you that I heard it at my freind's studio a few years back, and it thumped pretty well. So about a month ago I found it and bought one for $109. I like it.
