Hey dumass
Here is how i did everything:
2 Oktava MK-12's as overheads
- These went into a mixer hard left and hard right with no eq at all
3 Dynamic Mic's for toms which went in to the same mixer with eq on them
Then i took a left and right out from that mixer into my soundcard via RCA
The kick is a shure beta 52 into channel 1 on
my dbx 386 mic-pre
The snare is a 57 into channel 2 on the same pre-amp
That pre-amp goes into my sound card via S/PDIF
Then i do all the eq'ing in cool edit pro.
Guitar i put right on the grill dead on the cone. I recently re-recorded the guitars so stay tuned for my new mix with that... It sounds much better.
The bass was direct into my mic-preamps "instrument in"
Stay tuned for my next mix cause it is sounding really nice!
I'll probably post it tomorrow sometime.
Then i'll post the mix with the vocals in it!
Thanks for all the help with the kick/bass frequency sharing stuff!
[edit] the overheads are on the sides of the set, one over the hi-hat, but closer to the snare, and pushed back a little, and angled pointing somewhat sideways (cause soundwaves off cymbal seem to go out, not up) the other one is placed over the floor tom, then pushed back like 2 feet or so and angled the same way... they are only about 1-2 feet above the cymbals in height, but probably 3 feet away from any cymbal as far as distance goes...
The kick mic is about halfway into the kick drum, more towards the side, pointed at the beater. The snare mic is basically inbetween the first tom and the hi-hat, pointed at the rim but in an inch or so, i don't know...
But the snare and the toms have mufflers on them.
