Been trying to come up with a good bassline for my latest track but I'm in guitar mode and can't come up with anything special - also getting a good bass tone is beyond me at this stage (I only just took up playing bass after about 10 years of guitar).

If anyone is interested in recording a bassline for this track let me know. In a an ideal world I would choose someone like Steve Harris and Steve DiGiorgio - but I know that's a tall order!

If you can shred on the bass and produce a real tight heavy tone and you would like to experiment with this track please let me know!

One catch, you have to have a 5 string bass... low string tuned to B.

Cheers!

well thats a little prejudice. who says you cant shred on a 4 string?

I take it you are joking about the prejudice thing! Only reason it has to be off a 5 string is because some of the rhythm parts were played on a 7 string guitar tuned with a low B and they would sound a lot fuller played on a matching low B on a bass rather than an octave up.

hahaha ya im just joking around. reminded me of the other bassist at my school.....drooling over six string basses on musiciansfriend. but hes one of those idiotic metal heads. somebody definitely put one too many strings on a bass somewhere along the line.

but ya if you recorded the song on a low b guitar i suppose a low b bass will be needed.

180 bpm - or you could split it to 90bpm depending on your sequencer

DiGiorgio is in a class beyond Harris. FAR beyond. Just wanted to make sure people understand that. :D

I'll check it out at home and see what happens....

After i get my gear i would be willing to lay down bass lines for anyone! Been playing 23 years and 12 pro

Yeah, Harris has a nice powerful sound and plays more straight forward melodic power lines whereas DiGiorgio is more of a virtuoso. I do find Harris kicks a rhythm along better in general though... just to my ear anyway. Partly due to his tone and the way he plays off the drums. DiGiorgio is technicaly more proficient and adds some really amazing runs and lines - that's why my ideal would be a mix of their two styles. Anyhooo, it's all in the ear of the beholder.

who needs a five string to have a low B?

my four string is always tuned in B.

Typically a high end 5 string will have a 35" scale that tightens up the B string. The extra tension sounds better..tighter..more defined. There may some 35" scale 4 strings, but I can't think of any.
