I have GTP3 and am getting Home Studio 2004. My laptop is P4 3.2 512k ram and new. I like the Tascam 428 on paper but I was interested to know if anyone's had any experience with GTP3 or 2 and/or Homestudio '04 and how it fits in with the GTP 3 and HS. I really just want to use the GTP3 without getting to much into the cubasis end of it. Just want to be able to record a small live duo and for my home studio. Any feedback good or especially bad cause 4 bills had better deliver the goods without any tears or drama, ifyou know what I mean.

I don't have any experience with any of those software programs, but I used to own a 428. It always seemed to work well on N-track studio, cubasis and Nuendo. Nice little controller for not a bad price. However, if you're thinking about only recording a duo you might look at the 224. A lot of the same features for less. Especially if you're only needing to utilize 2 simultaneous inputs. And it's portable. good luck.

John,

Kindof late with an answer here, but yeah I've been using a US-428 with Cakewalk 9 and Sonar 1, 2.2, and 3.0 for many years. The drivers have got a lot better in the last year. Not all of the US-428 controls seem to affect Sonar but the important ones do - faders, transport, mute/solo, pan, F1-F3, and most importantly the Shuttle dial - I love that thing - It's litterally my favorite piece of gear. I hate editing without it.

I don't use the 428 as my main audio interface any more - I got an 8 input for band recording. The 428 does glitch occasionally if I'm running lots of effects or simultaneously recording 4 tracks. But it's really cool taking just it, a laptop, a mic and some guitar cords for a remote session.

i second what Randaji said and i'll also add that i use the 428 as a tactile mixer in my basement studio... while using it as the main recording device with my laptop (2.4ghz dell inspiron) while doing a remote session.

since i upgraded to winxp service pack 1, i haven't had a single problem recording on the laptop with the us428
