I have been thinking of building my panels for awhile but really its just too much work for me at this point so I was thinking of purchasing some premade 703 panels.

The cheapest I've found is here:

Anyone ever use them? What do ya think? Their faq's are handy too if you have any questions. Any input on them (if you guys have any) before I order would be great.

Thanks!

Joe

ps. ATS Acoustic Panel - 24x48x4 Price: $46.95 is the one Im mainly interested in if anyone knows a cheaper price somewhere. I'd appreciate that as well.

This past fall I ordered some raw 703 from them. Very fast delivery, and prices are decent as well. The finished panels look nice, and are not too expensive, I haven't seen them in person though.

I got 18 two inch panels of JM 3#/sf (703 equiv) for $120, or $7/panel. From SPI.

Two per bass trap, and some wood, and $0.99/yd muslin... It probably came to about $25-30 per trap, depending on how fancy I went with the hardware to build and hang them.

It can be hard to find 703 for that cheap, so $45 pre made is a pretty darn good deal. They'll look better than DIY, too.

Looks like a decent deal. Don't just hang them up anywhere, though. Read up on studio accoustics and such. Hanging them in the right places, at the right distance from the wall, could provide some serious results. You may still want to purchase some owens 703 to build basstraps, though

I think I'll just buy them and put them wherever they look cool actually. lol

(I know dude.) Thanks though, and thanks everyone!

looking at the installation instructions it looks like they have some sort of plywood backing on them...
comments on the effectiveness of that? I just see a lot of DIY guys make their panels in a frame and NOT mounting it directly to a plywood back (unless they are making some sort of wood panel membrane like on Ethan's FAQ site).

read their FAQ page. They say that according to their lab tests it doesn't really matter. After all what is the wood backing doing that the sheet rock of your house isnt doing? Its just reflecting the sound back through the 703 to be absorbed more right?

Now the density of wood vs. sheetrock who knows. According to their faq they say theres not much from what I remember reading.

However, they do allow you to order their premade panels without the wood backing but its like an extra $5 I think. I think their mounting method is really seemless though. I was going to build mine and use wire along the back and hang it like a picture but I dont think it would be as good in all reality. The only downside is the I need 4inch 703 so that wood backing adds probably close to another inch which kinda sucks but oh well.

=)

But yeah, read their faqs they address some things in there.

I've been watching their posts on Ebay for some time now. Their prices are pretty consistent. And it's fairly obvious what you're getting for the money. The best part is, they're about 50 miles from my house! I can't wait to win some money, talk my wife into it, and have my room(s) acoustically measured!

I just ordered 2 panels and 2 sheets of 703 from them yesteraday. Got the tracking information today and the packages should arrive in 2 days. I'll take pictures once I got everything up.

Thanks again ppl.

I got the panels shortly after I order and installed them the next day. Takes about 45 minutes per panel depending on your situation I guess. I'll take pictures if anyone cares to see. I only put two up for now until I can order more but they look really nice. Also was surprised to see they had a logo printed on the box they shipped in (for some reason). Nice.

These panels are awesome, great company to deal with, fast delivery, great customer service, these guys are just awesome, would recommend to anyone looking for acoustic panels.

heres some pics, hope you like.
