Anyone ever changed a ROM chip in outboard gear?

Actually, $31 dollars short, as that is what I paid for the kit :D I know clothing conducts static, so I shed all when doing this. No wonder why I enjoyed it so much...alright, too much info, I know. The chip was hard to remove and took some cradling back and forth with the tongs, but more challenging was installing the new one. I was told not to bend the prongs, but the new chip, if looking in profile, had prongs that looked like this /----\. The old chip's prongs were straight up and down. So I did have to uniformly bend (against a hard surface and buffered the prongs with the electrostatic packaging the chip came in) to get them so they would fit. Took about 15 minutes, as I wanted to be careful, but all signs point to a successful installation. Thanks for the info, though!

Sonic,
Listened and a-b'd again. The Lexi definitely has a large edge. I still do not dislike the Alesis, and it tends to sound dark, which is kind of cool, but overall sound as I listen tonight (again, but drum tracks only as that is what I am trying to start with )and is very noticeable in strong favor of the Lexi.

Getting naked to do a chip upgrade gives a whole new meaning to the term "gear lust".

Now that you have two reverbs you can start experimenting with matching the reverb to the track. This is one of the fun parts of owning more than one reverb, or more than one compressor, eq, or whatever really. You get to shape the tone of the music by the choice of gear. Even though the Alesis won't sound as nice in an A/B with the Lexicon, you will still certainly be able to find good uses for it.

The Midiverb might make a great second reverb when you want something lighter on certain tracks behind the LXP-15. Also, I've always really liked the sound of layered reverbs, it can make both sound better.
