gearhead and the EE triangle

1) ok, it finally clicked on all the EE Triangle stuff...i mean i was aware of the triangle, but now i really get it. the EE triangle! (with a few inches in the apex). great stuff. :)

2) the 38% of room, yes..This places the triangle..exactly!
what i was searching for.

updated word/pic..... the sides need something and a bit more tricky with windows and doors.

either way thanks for sharing the info. this is kinda my second go around and things are well....being Optimized! :)

anyways tomorrows a next day, and i need to go sleep in my rectangle.

A couple of things spring to mind from your drawing. I'm no expert on acoustics but just a couple of potential problems I can see.
1. There is often an unatural bass boost when monitors are placed to close to the front wall so try moving them into the room a couple fo feet if space allows.
2. The window at the front of the room could be a problem, it may need some acoustic treatment like a removable screen over it or something similar.
There is plenty of advice on acoustics over at - http://forum.studiotips.com/index.php

there's a step process I found when browsing musician friend's online manuals for monitors.... i think it was in a tannoy manual? maybe alesis? gah, I don't remember.

the alesis was interesting, good input and lead to reading KRK, EVent etc...
most were quite simplified....all have a "setup section".

small room..1-2ft away from wall seems normal,
front ports may help if having to place closer to the wall due to small room size...but not too close or one recommended plugging them.

the whole first reflection thing and comb filtering makes me wonder about the desk....the trade off versus moving the speakers around on stands vs the desk.
speaker setup 102.

Optimizing a small apex

been reading and following up on all your inputs.
y+X1/ X1+X2= comes out to 3.5ft with my room.

I could not use the stands, i just made, to satisfy the optimized requirements for this small of room...as the increase in angle put the apex towards the center of the room...>40%.
the stands were moved out for the B-set.

and the EE triangle brought in, made smaller.

so the Equidistant & Equilateral "EE" triangle is at 3.3',
Apex at <38% of room....
~24" from the front wall....
not dead center between floor and ceiling..

thanks for the inputs,,,,thats about all i can think of in this room for speaker placement.

look forward to the Test CD....and any other tips!! :)

added: new use for my DIY speaker stands.... Mini E's DIY.

Rev 4....

ok so the monitors were moved a bit, 24", away from the wall.
yesterday, added...
diy ...some 703 2x2 mobile traps for the side and window.
and hung 1qty 703/ Ethan- DIY Bass Trap to the rear wall.

added drawing attachment...word format i think. rev 4!

clap test seems to still have a super high "ring", almost like a tapping a fork to a crstal wine glass? tiiiinnnnggg....

any inputs on that? guesses?

I'd consider a set of the Auralex MoPads too. I just bought them 2 weeks ago and I can't believe the difference they make. For $30, you can't go wrong.

i haven't tried the mopads but i have done the foam, large vibration reduction noticed on the desk. same with spike or a stone like Tornado mentioned.

not sure if the better monitor placement/ more precise EE triangle helped or adding some 1st reflection panels did.? did both same time.
a very obvious change..cool. :)
unlike when i upgraded my wires/cables...or a few other projects. this was anoticeable change...thanks for inputs. always more to do...third go around (buy more 703).

rev 4 added Side and one rear first reflection thingmbob.

surprised not more "trick/tip" inputs?
everyone has monitors?
so i'm assuming most pop 'em down in a ~ triangle and never given a thought..maybe never moved?

now to convert that guitar tuner to a room tuner somehow....
hmmm :D
