Why so serious?
I am buying a pair. Been using a stereo, and it won't cut it anymore. I was just wondering if anybody had any experience with these, or the passive YSM1's.

Good, Bad, OK?

Regards, Don

Yorkville YSM-1

I loved these speakers. I had a pair for about a 3 months and then sold them to buy some microphones and some new KRK's. I like the KRK's for critical listening but for final mixing I really miss the Yorkvilles I thought they sounded sooooo smooth and really ear pleasing qualities. A vast difference to the KRK which are really punchy and crisp. One not better than the other just different. So I give the a thumbs up from personal experience. I have been looking to replace them soon.

ive heard the passive ysm1's and along with Tannoy ProtoJ's, they are the best monitor for its price, in my opinion....

Thanks for the input. I did some research on monitors, and got a reasonable price on a set of brand new YSM1P's. I did not listen to them cause the store is about an hour away, and thay were out of stock, so I'm taking a chance that thay will work for me. I guess they will have to. Got to be better than my old 70's Pioneer receiver anyway.

Where?

Does anybody know where I could find these monitors to check them out? I'm really hurting for a pair of "affordable" monitors. Are there chains that carry these? The only major music store here in South Bend, IN doesn't carry them. But Chicago is close.

Also, how much?

Thanks,
josh

Go to: http://www.yorkville.com/default.asp

They have a dealer search thingy. Just type in your zip code, and they will tell you the nearest dealer. There doesn't seem to be very many of them either. I live in Houston (5th largest city in US) and they list one dealer. I got mine for $416 a pair. Not a great deal, but reasonable. That's about what you will pay for that range of monitors.

If you have the time, you should go and listen to a few different brands and see which ones sound good to you.

Yorkville

Hey All:

I know its probably not feasible for most of you, because it appears most of you are posting from the U.S., but if any of you who are interested in Yorkville products are ever in the Toronto, Canada area you will want to do yourself a favour and seek out a music store called "Long & McQuade" (its a chain). Long & McQuade own and distribute Yorkville products, and, therefore, sell it cheaper than any other music store in Toronto. With your all-powerfull U.S. Dollar the savings will be even greater....

Canada Price??

Hey Vox,

Do you know what these generally go for in Canada. I'm in the Detroit area so Windor is pretty convenient if their is a price advantage.

Thanks,
Mark

I sent Long and McQuade an Email to get pricing, just for kicks.

Here's the reply.

Hello Don,

The YSM1P monitors sell for $370 each. If we can further assist you, please leave us a phone number along with the best time to call.

Thanks for e-mailing us.
