want it to be a USB2 or Firewire solution so that can connect to laptop and desktop. thanks!
A computer?
After some of the people I've met over the years, that's not impossible...One would hope that once he/she purchases a firewire/USB interface, they don't come back on here and ask "So - now where does the firewire plug into the microphone"![]()

With the Behri, you need an ADAT interfacePresonus Firepod!
400 bucks gets ya the firewire interface with instrument and mic preamps, and bundled Cubase LE, which, if you don't need ridiculous amounts of tools to fix up garbage going in, is a great piece of software to learn computer recording on - its also perfectly functional if you've already worked in-the-box... but if you JUST need the interface, don't know what to tell ya to cut costs.
I'd say, go to sweetwater.com or musiciansfriend.com, go to recording -> computer interfaces, and sort by price. Look in your price range, then research all the models you'd be comfortable buying. And I'd say stick with firewire if you plan on doing 8 tracks simultaneous. USB lags pretty quick when the channels pile up.
If you need to go reaally cheap, there's the ADA8000 from Behringer. Probably one of the few Behri items that people don't unanimously despise.
Mullin mentioned a laptop/computer in the first postA computer?
What's a multi-recorder?indeed, any differences with the 8-track (simu. ) multi-recorder vs computer interface?
i searched some multi-recorder, most of them just provide 2 or 4-track simu. recording only.

Thanks. I kind of thought that, but wasn't sure.I assume he means a unit like these:

At least, the ones that have a high number of channels (16-24) - a stand-alone multitrack recorder with all the features built-in.
With the ADA8000 you will need an interface or sound card that has an ADAT input/output......
As i earlier mentioned...![]()
