I wrote the lyrics and music ( right, like I can WRITE music ) and my pal Jim added a couple verses. We just started working on this song and Bob ( keyboard ) had a friend come by with his bass guitar, so this is Tony's first time with The Dan Thompson Band. Nothing serious, just the first real recording of the song that turned out. Actually, we just happen to make it all the way thru without fucking up to bad.

I think these songs (the other post too) are nice tunes, albeit nothing barn door shattering, music wise. The recordings allow the instruments and vocals to come thru fine and not compete with each other, but however have a strong demo quality sound to them, with a fair amount of background hiss, and ambient mic noise it appears. In this song, it appears there are numerous 'clams' on the keyboards...and a couple gtr ones too. Unless the noise and mistakes are fixed, I think the recordings will battle to sound something other than just 'putting up a couple of mics' and capturing an event....or kinda rough, demo-ish, takes.

What are you recording on?

Nice melody and progression. I think the mix is a tad bass heavy. Maybe match the bass up with the keys a little more. Lots of melody going on and not enough focus. The vox are ok but bleed repitition.

Pleasant enough song. If you just wanted a recording of it for posterity, you have it. If you want to make it solid, I'd work on some more emotion in the vox, some instrumental spotlights and a little cleaner micing technic. Still, the melody is in my head so, that is a good sign.

Theron.

theron and mixmkr pretty much covered it. I thought I heard some tuning problems in a few places. I'm not sure who it was but on certain chords it stood out. Nice tune, it would be worth working on some more and adding a bit to it.

thanks peoples,

mixmkr- 424mkIII-and you hit the nail on the head, put up a couple mics, etc. What's a "clam"?

theron-first nite for the bass player, using phones, direct recorded, and I don't know what I'm doing, he he he.

Lt. Bob- yeah, hear the tuning. Don't you just hate it when that happens? New song. First real recording we made of it.

Had a lot of fun. And you guys ought to know me by now. We drink, eat, play, record, and be merry. That's all we do. No "demos" for anything. Just staying off the streets, he he he he.

Thanks again, it really helps hearing what you folks have to say.

Another nice song

Geez you write pretty songs. "It's like a concept album." That was funny.

I loved the bass part. It came through very clearly on my PC speakers. So on a decent system it may be too much. But again the part was nice.

I think you had a harmony part, but I could barely hear it. Pretty songs like this would benefit from a nice high part.

Nice chord on the piano at about 3:33. A 7th chord? I think that was the only spot you used it. That was cool.

What was that going on vocally at 4:23? I have to think it was intentional. I thought it took away from the overall ambience.

Was there a pitch issue when the vocals first came in @ :10 on the word "can't?"

Overall nice song.

3M,
thanks for listening.

Bass- Tony's first time playing with us which of course means first time doing this tune. Good bass player.

Harmony part?- I think Bob ( keyboard ) either was singging to himself or something like that.

7th chord- what's a 7th chord? he he he Don't know, just something Bob did. New song. Trying new stuff.

4:23- Bob again. I think he was telling Tony a chord change or maybe something about missing a chord. I forget.

@:10- Jim's a newb at this stuff. I think he wasn't sure when to start. He always has to look at Bob for when to start singging. They may be gay. he he he he

Anyway, thanks for listening and commenting.

We all like Jim's comment at the end. Most of our "songs" are shorter than this one. It's Jim's fault too. I wrote three nice verses and and a chorus and he came in with a few more verses.
But that's what he does.
