another cheap Vocal mic question

Nice song, Terry. Vocal track sounds great, but the guitar sounds a little "boomy" in parts to me. But as you mentioned, no EQ adjustments applied. The mic is nice, isnt' it? Own one myself.

For a B1, that vocal sounds great! I got boominess from the guitar as well, but my comp sound isn't the best. Nice sound from a cheapie!

Thanks Han, I used to do a bit of vocal recording for our a cappella chapter,
and would either use an EV 635a or AT 3527. Both are "sleepers".
I also like the EV's with variable-D exactly for the reasons you mentioned.

IMHO my first pick for a dynamic mic (to go along with a condenser) for most vocalists starting out would be the EV 635a over a SM57 if they're voice is
high baritone or higher. (including female vox)

If a deeper baritone or lower, then replace the 635a with either a RE15 or RE16, which cost somewhat more typically. (they have variable-D)

Thanks fellas,

All I did for the guitar was to wear it with a strap, put the B1 on a stand about even with the hole and then pivoted back and forth until it sounded good in my head phones. The purpose for the recording was to show a friend what it could sound like on acoustic and vocals. He was thinking about buying one. That's why I didn't try and do any EQing. I prefer my NTK for both purposes but I believe the B1 can work well with a little more careful mic placement and some EQ. For $80, I think everyone should own one.

Blessings, Terry

I have had both for over a year or so now.

In short, My partner knows nothing about gear, but when I switched the V67g for the B1 for a vox session,, his @ss could hear the difference and asked me why the vox sound that way.

I have yet to find a vocalist who sounds better on the B1 over the V67g back when I was really using them. But the B1 wins hands down on a guitar cab compared to a V67g for me. I get better results with the V67g on Acoustics though.

Both are good mics for the price. But since I got a V69, I havent really used either except for when we sometimes play around in the studio.
