Hi guys,

I have a Presonus Firebox and I am using it to record vocals and acoustic guitar with a Rode NT1000 and sometimes a Rode NT2.

My problem is that I cant get enough gain with the Presonus pres without shitloads of hum.

Can anyone recommend a good preamp (or a lil box with 2 pres) that I could score for under about $150 - 200?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help,

Cat

The presonus pres should have plenty of juice for condensor mics and they should be relatively quiet even at high gain settings.

You need to track down the source of the hum.

I use the DMP3 (~$150) and there is no noise even with the gain cranked way up.

But I'd find the source of the hum first, I doubt it's the pre.

That sounds like you have a problem with you cable or your firebox... should be loads of juice for a LDC. As suggested, find the problem before you buy something new.
