another bass trap question...

  • Thread starter Thread starter pikingrin
  • Start date Start date
i built a frame the exact same size as the (in my case) rock wool

1: put material on floor
2: put rock wool on material
3: put frame on back of rock wool
4: pull material tight, staple to frame

then you have a trap with exposed sides, and an airspace behind it that's the thickness of the frame you made.

So to be sure...(European sizes)..please help :)..
Plywood - I think we call it Multiplex (picture attached...please help to confirm).

Sizes I need then:
3/4" = 18mm
1/4" = 6 mm or
1/8" = 3 mm

And depth of it should be 10 cm right? 4" I guess..or am I wrong on that?

And I use rockwool for fiberglass insulation.

Attached is also the "floorplan" which I have in mind and where to put the traps if I can make them correctly..please let me know if this is correct and if not..where it needs adjustment..

I thought I'd better post it in here then making another new thread cause there are allready tons of them.

Thanks!

The design with an airtrap and exposed sides is exactly what these are http://www.gikacoustics.com/ordernow.htm

I bought 4 of these are I am quite pleased with the results. You can walk into the corners and sides of the room where these hang and hear very little bass build up.

Price is right too.

if you've got the time, you save like 3/4 of that cost doing it yourself.

Actually I priced it out. If you get Rockwool, which is what GIK uses, the wood frames, wire, frame hooks, glue and fabric come to $45 for a 2x4 panel. 4 panels are $180. California prices here.

4 of these shipped to my house here in CA was $270. So the savings is about 33% for DIY. For that amount, I was willing to have someone else assemble.

for about 450$ i made
5- 8'*2'*4" corner traps
9- 4'*2'*2' wall traps
4- window plugs...... whatever size my windows are (i forget exactly)

the rockwoll cost about 200, the rest on material and 1*2 lumber.
super bargen hunting, understand.
