Ok, I retract that, I just thought the song was not very good. My apoligies.

The song sucked. The sound effects were annoying and so did that startrek sounding lead guitar part that began so so late in the song. The song had no memorable hook therefore the only thing I remember is the annoying sounds. Also, I didn't like your voice either, isn't very unique sounding, maybe on a different song it would be ok. Surprisingly I was expecting a really fantastic song especially after the posts you post and especially how you slammed my songs. Anyway, I suspose the technicalities are ok, I'm no expert on that part, but I do know when a song makes me feel good. Unfortunately this one only made me feel like turning it off. Sorry about being so direct. I may not be the best song writer or musician, but I'm pretty good at knowing a good song, and this one is a flop. I think everyone in this forum gets so caught up in the mixing part they don't notice the "Song". So to this I say most of the previous respondents didn't give it to you straight.

Wow, dude, talk about picking at an old wound. If that's really how you feel about my song, then I appreciate your input. Honest reviews are the only way to improve. However, if your response is merely a lashing out at my review of your tunes, you are going about it all wrong.

I went back and looked at what I wrote. Yup, it was harsh. However, I stand by my review. It wasn't meant to be personal (though with creative works, it tends to be interpreted that way). You asked for a critique, and you got it. If you only want people to lick your balls and tell you how great you are, you are in the wrong place. Go play it for your family.

I have never once touted myself to be a professional. I don't claim to be a great singer, songwriter, musician, or recordist. I am simply a guy who writes tunes and records them at home. I am a member of this board because I enjoy learning about the recording process. However, just because I am in the learning stages myself, that doesn't preclude me from offering my ears and opinions. Listening to, and critiquing, other people's music helps me improve my own. Hopefully, they get something useful out of it also. Sorry if you didn't find my review helpful.

Anyway, best of luck to you with your music.

Well this IS the MIXING Clinic... not the Good Song/Bad Song Clinic. I think everybody who responded did a good job giving their individual views of the mixing done on that song. If the song is not a genre that I'm into I try to forget that and just listen to the mix.

Nice guitar work. Nice vox and harmonies. Nice mix. Nice recording!
Hmmmmmmm.......I really like it!! Like the bridge. Love the guitar solo!!
Dude! this is a really nice tune.(I am typing as I am listening)
Ya got a winner in my opinion!!!! ;)

r4m, sile2001, giraffe, 7string, and even talgreg:

Thanks for listening, and your comments. This mix is a few months old and was brought back to life through the power of the forum. I have a new version with real drums and stuff that I will try to get mixed and posted in the next few days. Happy recording!

Ooooooh! New version! REAL DRUMS!!!!!! YAY!!! Get that tune on out here man, we want to hear it!

nice tune, nice job

Mix sounds great, esp. the acoustic guitar and vocals. My only dig (completely reflecting my taste of course) is on the descending minor scale bit that comes on. When the scale begins a second time a 4th or so lower, the song loses something for me. I have something else in my head for that.

Anyway - really nice job.

I dig this tune. I listened that last time around but you know there's something I missed. There's a ticking thing that sounds weird. Sounds like a percussive element but I would definitely cut it in the next version.
Some of the crashes in the bridge are weird for the part.

Can't wait for the new drum version.

Wow... I read this and my first reaction was: "What's he hearing that the rest of us aren't...?"

Ahhhh...... OK.... That explains it...

Can't wait for the remix scrubs

:)

I think the drums take away from the song. I'd try some light hand percussion like shakers/dry tambourine and perhaps some malleted cymbals - something dark and complex. Maybe launch a brushed kit during the solo.

I think it sounds good, I like the idea of the shakers or hand percussion! It seems a bit monotone thoughout, maybe more dynamic or a really moving bridge.

Great Song! Great Voice! I agree about the drums being a bit buried (just a smidgen though) I'll definitly give this a second or even a third listen.
