Another 840 Virtual Track usage question

I've got drum parts across three tracks (in this case 4, 5/6 and 7/8) plus two guitars and bass on 1,2,3. I have something like 20+ minutes remaining on the 250MB zip. I'm starting to get the "disk busy" error message, which means it is time to free up some tracks.

If I bounce or submix all the drum parts to the a stereo pair on a 7/8, that will obviously free up tracks 4 and 5/6.

But if I want to retain the original parts and move them to V tracks (either deeper on the tracks they're living on now, or stack them up in V tracks on 7/8) does that free up any minutes, or just tracks?

I assume that because I won't be playing back as many tracks at once, I'll avoid the "disk busy" error message until I'm full again.

I guess what I'm asking is what is the most efficient way to proceed that frees up space and lets me keep my options open? I still have a couple more guitar parts to record.

Any help here would be apprieciated.

David...

Be Careful, you don't want to lose you work here. What you're saying should work...either bouncing or sub-mixing and then laying down additional V-tracks.

However, I strongly advise you do a back-up first, just in case. You can also erase unwanted parts or if you have saved a mixer scene, try erasing that. Then try additional V-tracks. If you still get a drive busy, try "disk Optimise".

Some VS users have reported problems with "Disk Optimise, I have never had any problem with it on my 840.

Good luck.

sampeling rate

The reason that I get the"drive busy" message is the sample rate. When I went to the higher speed I can only playback 6 tracks! Now that sucks. There is only one converter and a buffering system. And it can't handle the higher speed recording/playback.
Though it sound's better so bounce away and use that hadie undo button.
I've also tried stoping during a bounce and adjusting the mixer this works great.
In order to get my bass parts right I would play song all the way through 8 times then bounce the good parts together.Stoping the recorder to grab other vertual tracks for the bounce.
Good luck

Bouncing or submixing should fix the playback issue.

I finally found in the manual where it says, that after bouncing, you have to "optimize" to actuall free up the "minutes." So I guess you've got to be really sure you're ready to bounce.
