Hey Guys,

I did the voices for my buddy Chris on this one:

It's back to the 80's again! :D

We'd be happy to know what you think.

Cheers
Joe

80's!

The first 35 seconds definitely has a Van Hagar feel to it...

I like it. I am going to steal your vocal chords in your sleep one night...

ooohhh, I'd better change my address and have 'em insured.......:D

Cheers
Joe

Great job! This works well--your voice is great by itself, but also fits this song perfectly. I love the mellow "fall back" part before it rocks out again. Very nice all around!

Like it a lot. The structure, orchestration and vocals are very nice.

My only criticism is on the overall EQ of the song, and I am only being so bold as to say this because I have the same issue, and would love to hear from others on how they get past it...the overall mix sounds tinny to me. It doesn't have that _________, that pro recordings have. What is _________, and why can't i get it? LOL.

Hey Whitestrat,
really appreciate your comments, especially when I think of of the quality of your recordings! ;)

BenignVanilla,

the list of things that those pro recordings have is endless compared to what we've got....but it all boils down to multimilliondollar studios, engineers with 30 something years of experience, great mastering etc.!
Thanx for your comments!

Cheers
Joe

Joey,
Doesn't sound 80's bad. Only the bass seems very 80's to me in its chugga style.
Good singing & sounds pretty well captured also.
I'd only say that the vox are a shade too loud for me.
The beginning of the quite section - the 1st phrase - what was done to your voice? some thing happened and was then backed off from - or is it mic technique?
Did you have to wear spandex when recording?

I agree with that vanilla guy. It's pretty good, kind if has an old Cult feel to it, but it does seem a little tinny and bright. Particularly the snare and cymbals. I'm assuming they're not real. The vocal performance is fantastic. I don't know how well they're sitting in the mix. They lack a little "air". Their level is fine. Maybe it's an EQ thing. They're kind of boxy, but not bad. Overall it's a good song.

AHAAHAAHAA, spandex:D:D
Ray, I'll have to listen to that part closely again to know what you mean...

Greg, the drums are absolutely not real! Chris programmed them using Battery 2. He admits himself that he's not all that hot at programming drums but i suppose he makes up for that with his guitar playing..... I would have liked them to be warmer. But maybe he can fix a couple of things. We've got a long way to go to reach your kind of quality.......Thanx for the comment on the voice...coming from someone like you, that is a real compliment!

Mix Licks

Using cheap walkman headphones and the default Apple sound card to listen to the song (just so you know), I'd recommend bringing the rhythm guitars down and bringing the solo guitar up because the rhythm pretty much covered up the solo. The drums sounded pretty good to me and I liked some of the subtle reverb and delay effects. The singing was great- I thought David Coverdale was in the room at the beginning of the song!

Coverdale....one of my great gods! :)
Yeah, some things we gotta fix there...
Thanx for the comments!

The drums are taking a little away from an otherwise stellar performance Joey. The snare is too sharp/loud/snappy... Damn this does rock at the end too....the echo is perfection!:D:cool::D

Thanx Gerry!
Yeah you're right about the snare, we'll have to look at it again.
Cheers
Joe :)
