Another 388 question!!!!

Hey.Im thinking of getting a 388 off Ebay.It's described as a 8 out of 10 cosmetically but 3 of the tracks are not recording,but all playback.Is this a major problem or an easy fix????
I really want one of these things!!!

It looks like the same one was re-listed by the same seller. We've discussed it in a previous thread and the general consensus was to leave it alone. I would never buy a 388 (or any other deck like this) which needed to be shipped, unless it was verified to be working fully and crated or palletized. You will lose big time otherwise.
 
Yeah,Im kinda iffy.I contacted the seller and he said he is building a wooden frame/crate to ship it.I like the sounds of that,but not sure if it needs alot of work to get the 3 tracks to record.
 
I was eyeing that thing last night too. Sorry, I have no ideas on the possible nature of the repairs needed...

Buy it Now is $250 though on it...seems kind of reasonable?

Amazingly, there are two other 388s on ebay right now...one for close to $500 and the other for close to $1000. All appear willing to ship, but pretty risky and expensive for such a large heavy item of this nature.

Often when I see 388s for sale online, they are for pick up only. It is tempting, isn't it...
