Don't stare at the eye.
I think the Clinic is the single most valuable part of this site. I haven't recorded anything new in ages--life gets in the way--but I thought it might be fun to post an old track and see what the new crowd thinks of it. Obviously, these are canned drums, but everything else is me. Enjoy, or don't enjoy--it's up to you. But feel free to comment either way.

The guitars sound really good to me. I am always afraid to pan things that extremely but this sounds great. I enjoyed hearing this, thanks for posting. Sorry I can't get too detailed, I am pretty new to this.

The acoustics sound really good! I like the lead tone, although I personally could use less delay. That's just personal taste for me. I know that creamy kind of tone with delay fits the style. I like how you avoided the fizz though. Well done.

Thanks--new or not, I appreciate the listen and the input.

Thanks Greg. I've got a full CD project coming up with a new artist (also an old friend). Stylistically, we're nothing alike, and most of my recordings are of me. I know he's gonna be acoustic-heavy, so I'm looking for tracks that at least feature some acoustic to play for him--just to give him an idea of what I'm capable of as an engineer. I suspect he'll want me to add some leads here and there, but they won't be nearly so saturated as this.

Thanks for the listen and comments.

It sounds real nice to me. I love the, almost clumsy, rhythm of the acoustic. Nice playing and the mix sounds great. I just kept waiting for the vocals to start.

Top stuff :thumbs up:

Creamy lead tone indeed.
I'm not much of a delay fan but it suits your tone & sounds fine in the context.
Crips acoustic sound with no pick click. Sounds really uncluttered too.
Lovely job.

I like delay, so this resonates strongly with me. Great guitar sounds, and the song has a good structure.

I particularly like the bass line.

The drum sound could be a bit wetter to match the overall wetness of the song a bit more.

Real clean job! Nice tune.. I like the tone of the guitars both acoustic and electric...

It's subjective and I'm no ace but Jessica brought up the panning and some of the placement seemed a little odd...the lead, at least in my cans sounded like it is slightly to the left.....I'd of put it dead center .. the pan of the acoustics is wide but it works..I'd of gently brought the volume of the acoustic guitars down in the lead guitar part..so the lead was on top.

Great playing and great song as is to be sure!

The acoustic guitars sound incredible, very crisp and detailed. They're panned a little to wide for my tastes in this context...they could come towards center and still sound big.

I actually like the drums (except that damn shaker :D). Somehow they fit.

Nice guitar work and tone. Agreed that the slightly left-of-center panning is a little odd, even if the delay is panned over to the right...it doesn't quite balance out to me.

I wouldn't mind hearing some bass guitar in there somewhere...if it's there I don't hear it.

Anyways, this sounds great overall. Great fidelity, crisp mix, levels are good to me.

I know what you're saying, but when the song opened what I noticed was how damn good those dry drums sounded against the acoustic guitars. So I'd dial back the space on the lead guitar part - I think it's too big for the drums and guitars. Taste call?

Nice although the lead guitar has too much bite I think...would be better with a less cutting tone...something a bit more fluid or smooth. But well done...good stuff

Love the acoustics, rhythmic and fluffy. I like to pan them wide, too.
I, too think the guitar is a little over the top. The general vibe of the song is very light, so it feels like the guitar slams you too hard. You have good chops, just lighten up on the sound.
Good job

Sounds very good, I like the panning. The drums could be wetter and have a little variation. Maybe more shaker sounds or tambourine at sections. Nice work!
