A fellow Ga guy! Stairway wasn't bad-you got out of sync with the drums once or twice...theres some nice chords you left out on the part that goes Am---D....No biggie but I always liked playing that chord riff..You know the one I'm talking about? Jimmy Page was my hero growing up so it's always good to hear someone doing zeppelin. Go dawgs!
 
Hey Zeke....nice playing man. You're playing everything? That's hard to do. I think you're off to a real good start in this recording thing. The main thing I would mention is to check your tuning more often. I'm a piano tuner so I'm more sensitive to it than a lot of people but that rhythm guitar was out of tune. The playing , though, was good and I look forward to hearing more from you. What kind of gear did you record this with?
 
first of all you are 13.....and playing stairway to heavan....something recorded about 25 yrs before you were born...how cool is that??..like others have said there are little problems here and there but so what....your DOING IT..right?.i think this is very cool...when i was 15 i was in a band (drummer)...and back then they had this traveling band sponsered by the navy or something called "freedom jam"..and they played cover versions of all the popular songs of the time..they were actually very good..well we talked them into letting us "open "...for them at my junior high...they said sure(without even hearing us play a thing)...and said we could use all theyre equip...WOW this was pro-stuff...the drum kit was about as big as my room!!...so we set up and after almaost puking a few times from fear plaed "stairway'...for approximately 45 minutes as it waas the only thing we knew all the way thru...lol..not quite how we portrayed ourselves to the band..it became apparent that we didnt know anything alse so the lead singer and guitarist from the pro-band walked onatge plugged in and totally rocked !!......and ive been hooked ever since...sorta went on a rant here but this song totally reminds me of that experience....KEEP PLAYING......GOOD LUCK!!

I like the snare.

It's great hearing younger folk trying to play great tunes.

That middle part threw you didn't it. da da da.

Most of the crucial parts of this song were left out, or not learned. Most of the chording and instrumentation was wrong.

When recording a cover song, I've found it's best to learn the tune first, then record it.

How did you get Neil Young to play lead? :)

Outside all the negative comments, it sounded like a fun time, and that is what really matters!

Zeke... you know, when I was 13 back in 1980, I played Stairway To Heaven at the school talent show... and took home first place! Your subject line hit home, and brought back some memories...:D
I say this - at 13, you got a head start on this stuff... Take your time, and practice, practice, practice. Aside from my 'old guy' advice, the song section you laid out sounded like a fun time; you're fortunate to have that kind of equipment at such a young age. You're gonna be a deadly 16 year old!!!!:D Keep up the good work, man...
 
Hey man...keep going. I'm not gonna' tell you it's a great recording, because it's not a great recording. It's downright awful...but you're a better guitar player at 13 than I was at 22, and I didn't even TRY to record something until last August...so keep going.

My daughter's 12 now, and she's starting to do some multitrack recording when I'm at work. It's horrible stuff, but she's off to a good start, and so are you.

Oh yeah, for the record...your drums sounded better than any drums I've ever had on any of my recordings.
 
VERY NICE ZEKE. and also very unusual for a young guy of today to choose such a classic, im impressed with your playing , you keep practicing and you will be lethal by 16, and your starting in the wright place to, all of todays music is derived from classic rock, if you can learn to play like page or van halen your already there, all i can say is for your first recording and only being 13 it sounds good,although there is always room for improvement and that is what makes us drive harder the next time and to practice 3 or 4 hours a day. if i was your age again and knowing what i know now i would have done things so differently than the way i did, all i did was learn the songs i needed to know for my band and never studied theory or nothing like that.you also have a big advantage over what i had you have the internet that is just full of experiance and knowledge, heck theres probably a 1000 years worth of knowledge just on this forumn alone when you add up all us old farts. but anyway im begining to pull a chris here and hogging this thread so keep practicing your half way there. good luck tim pate

Not bad Zeke....if you were only 12. BUT...since you're 13, I'm expecting a lot more out of you guy!!...Think Steve Winwood, Johnny Lang... That kid country singer..whatever his name is..the little kid ... ...and the chick singer too...Leann Rimmes (sp?) ... By 16, you better be shredding some Van Halen licks!!:D :D

i recorded the hole demo on my fostex vf-16 16-track recorder. then i recorded it (via the line in) to cakewalk guitar tracks 2.0 on my computer. then i encoded it in cakewalk pyro.

i recorded the guitars direct into the recorder without a direct box. the bass amp was miced with a shure beta 52 and i used 4 mics on the drums...1 overhead(nady scm900), kick drum(outside) i used some old v-tech mic for that. and a mic on the inside of the kick about 2" off the back head was a shure beta 52. and one the snare i used a sm57. (it was a funny look'n kind of placement though. the sm57 was behide the hi-hat faceing out from the rest of the drums. and i know that this cymbal brand sucks but the ride was a "camber"! the rest was made by sabian,zildjain,pastie


all the effects came from the fostex recorder. and it was a funny thing, that i recorded this in my dad's big building that has wood walls and a cemtfloor. i think that the building is a 125' x 53'. so i was suprised with the sound that i got.

Lead guit is out of tune.. there's some hiss... but very very cool, Zeke! Way to go feller! :)

Just a piece of this tune; if one of us older guys did "Stairway" -- no matter how good we did -- it would be called sacrilege. It's so cool that Zeke's young enough not to understand that, so he can go ahead and give "Stairway" a roll :)

BTW that green avatar of yours that flips the bird made me listen! :eek: :) Keep goin there, feller!

meh - i'm 20...i'll cover stairway if I damn well want to.

heh...this is pretty cool zeke. actually i am really impressed with your drum sound...esp. the snare as mentioned earlier. nice work, keep it up.

I like in GA too...in Duluth now.

btw - the neil young playing lead comment...haha ;)
