An EZ drummer tutorial for you.

Start with a blank session in cubase then:

Load up ez drummer in one of the slots:

Click ok if you want, I don't usually bother but you can hit yes here or cancel and add it manually:

Ok so next to the "e" button hit that little thing with the arrow pointing to the right:

This menu pops up, go ahead and activate ALL outputs:

You should now have a screen that looks like so:

Now open up ez drummer gui:

Hit the mixer button to bring up the mixer. In this window you want to change each channels output from all out 1 to your liking.
I like:
Kick: out 1
Snare top and bottom: out 2
Hats: out 3
Rack 1: out 4
Rack 2: out 5
Floor: out 6
OH: out 7
Room: out 8

Name your cubase tracks so you know what they are, you name them just like any other audio track:

Once that's done, I recommend saving this setup as a template:

Now add a midi track (if you didn't earlier when asked):

Hopefully your looking at something similar:

Now re open the vst instruments rack:

Load up EZ player pro:

Direct your attention here (this is the midi track):

This is how you want your I/O routing on your midi track:

Now load up a midi file your wanna play and press the orange speaker button on the midi track, then audition the midi in ez player.:

It's called the "monitor button" and can be seen here:

Now to build your drum track you just drag and drop the midi files into the midi track in cubase!

This stuff works for any drum software plugin. These steps are the same for superior, steven slate etc...

Does EZplayer come in EZ Drummer ? Also, what is the advantage of separating all the outs ? Does this give you the control to individually process each part of the kit? i.e reverb, EQ, compression ?

EZ player pro is a $50 midi arranger the came with superior drummer 2.0

you can arrange your midi tracks and loops right inside of it or you can drag and drop midi from it into cubase's window.

It's nice because it's compatible with anything from BFD, DFH2 (original), Steven Slate, battery etc...

EZ drummer does however not need it to run.



The second question as far as the outputs go: Yes the reason behind that is so you can apply VST insert effects to individual drum sounds in EZ drummer.

another question,

I've been having a good time with ezdrummer, it's so simple and sounds pretty good.

But i listen to some tracks posted here, and recently listened to "Ziltoid the Omniscient" by Devin Townsend (which I read was done using Drum kit from Hell)

and I'm wondering how you guys use ezdrummer?

Do you literally just drag and drop the loops? It seems to get more intricate sounding beats there would need to be a wider option of fills and what not.

I've made slight changes to some loops, like taking a crash out from the end, and simple things like that -

But how do you guys use ezdrummer?

Once you drag the groove into your project you can double click on it and it opens an edit window. In this window you can move notes around and edit as much as you want.

Guitargodgt ... I have a question about ezplayer in Cubase. I can't figure out the routing if I want to send the ezplayer tracks to different VSTis. No matter what I set channel wise in the ezplayer track midi routing settings and in the cubase midi channel routing ... the midi is echoed to each cubase hosted VSTi.

I've been able to filter the channels in cubase to work around ... but this in not a very useful or time efficient process. Any ideas?

Good tutorial on ezdrummer. A couple of things I like to do:

I like to make a preset in the EZD mixer section to set all faders to zero and center pan all the drums (except the stereo tracks). This puts them all at the same level and I use the faders and pan in the DAW to mix.

Always select Multitrack for channel assignments in EZD mixer section by right clicking on the Trk1 and selecting Multiple (or whatever it says).

I have EZPlayer Pro, but rarely use it. I initially bought it so I could write drum tracks on my laptop while traveling. That and EZ Solo together. As Pathdoc said, drag and drop your grooves onto a track in your daw, then double click to open and edit. Editing the canned groove files is a lot of fun and adds a human element to the track. I can spend hours on one song editing the drum parts, but I enjoy doing that.

I can't seem to find how this would be done. EZ player doesn't seem to want to show more than 1 midi out.

The manual is no help either.

Oh and superior went on sale this month. Most places have it for $150.

And it is much nicer than ez.
