my buddy had a '72 F30, what a sweet, sweet tone...... it's not as loud as the Taylor, but man, it ruled on a smokey, earthy tone......
broken neck though, i don't know........

i'm glad it sounds big somewhere! i guess if you crank it, the low end starts coming out.......
the trick is learning where and what to tweak, to get it to sound full on any system....... that's where i'm at now, just trying to figure that stuff out........
It's 4 parts.
2 rhythms, playing left and right, basically the same thing, but a little different in the approach...... then a melody line, and a harmony line.

thanks for the kind words. That song has been around for a while, and it was the song i demo'd the Taylor with..... i've got an all electric version of the same song, but i like the acoustic version better......

yeah, i can't tame those squeeks!
i wonder, if i had a direct sound in there, with just a bit of the miced sound blended in, if the squeeks wouldn't be as prevalent as they are....
i'm going to have to get a pickup too......... thanks for listening......

yeah, you and BS have the good ear...... i actually tried another recording of it, and tried real hard to not slide, but the performance didn't sound as loose and natural, and so when i decided to burn a single, that was the one i went with. I guess sometimes the performance has to win out over the sonics, the good guys get it both!

i felt the same thing about the strings, i put on some phospor bronze instead, and it made a huge difference.
You've really got to experiment to find the sound...... i recorded another acoustic song with those sets of strings, and with a different preamp..... totally different effect.... i'll post that one soon, and you can a/b the effect, and see what you think........
and there's nothing wrong with ANOTHER guitar! LOL

thanks for the listen...... i agree with you about the strings......... at the time, i thought it would be a great experiment to hear the recording of the thing brand new, not broken in, with the shiniest string sound i could get....... now i know. i think i prefer the mellower tone it has now......
you know, i was playing the melody lines by picking right on the neck, at the base of it, and you can hear the pick actually hitting the fretboard...... i was unaware of it at the time...........

i do have a 57, and i tried to do a double-mic thing once, but i don't think the 57 had the right tone for it, and i trashed it.......
57's great for my electric though....... i'd love to get another condenser, and do the neck-soundhole thing........ my buddy has a Taylor 310, with a fishman in the bridge, and then mics it with a similar condenser, and i really like that blend.......

I was joking. Actually, the neck has been broken COMPLETELY OFF twice! A friend screwed and glued it back together and it still plays well. I wouldn't part with her. She's my baby.
I will make another offer for the 414, though. How about a beautiful Squire Tele or maybe a Mustang bass. (my wife will never know - it's her's).

oh, the squeaks aren't really getting in the way of anything. i had to really listen hard to find something. i just love this stuff and the guitar sounds awsome. i recently bought a Taylor as my first and only guitar purchase just cause i never want to say 'damn, i wish i bought a taylor'.
i think your next purchase should be another 4033 so you can record in stereo. just my opinion.

Nice song. Good playing and very clean recording.
My only nitpicks (and they're truly nitpicks)... I would have liked a nice warm bass part throughout. My tastes would say a bit less reverb to make the song more intimate. The fret noise, was a bit (only a bit) too prevalent.

i had a mustang guitar once..... great guitar......but don't take the wifey's bass...............

you know, i talked earlier in the thread about another version of this song..... it's all electric, and the melody lines are done more like sax lines, and the bass is there.......
i wonder if i should do another electric version........
now adding bass to the acoustic version, i hadn't thought about that..........

Anything like this that reminds me of Michael Hedges (rip) is a good thing... I like where you take the song... very creative chord progressions... also reminds me of another SL native "Larry Pattis" (heard of him? I deliver his mail; he comped me one of his CDs... similar sound to this...)
Guess I need to sit down and actually PRACTICE After "Daybreak", simple strums and whatnot aren't going to get it done... this should be on a HomeRec comp cd...

i've heard of larry pattis, but never met him or heard him... i'm still a new kid in town......
does home rec have a comp cd?
i'd love to show you the chord changes, they're really easy, and if i knew what i was doing, i could just chart em out........

That store is the premier distributor of Breelove Guitars. I recently read in the City Weekly that Pattis is moving to Oregon. Which is too bad, because he kicks ass and is a damn cool and funny guy. I had the privelage of doing the live sound for a show when he opened up for fingerstyle legand, Adrian Legg. Anywho.... for some good luthier work, you can also check out Acoustic Music over on 4th south and about 9th East.
