I'm going direct into my EMU1820 and want to get some different sounds out of my strat.
Who's used what and how'd ya like it?

I'm looking at the $250 range.

There have been dozens of discussions re: amp simulation (do a search (POD, J Station, Genesis, etc. etc)

I prefer the POD

They all kinda suck compared to a small tube amp for the same money.

In plug in land Amplitube is great. The Johnson stuff is pretty good like the J-Station.

Many people love POD but the experiences I've had with their stuff was pretty plastic sounding. Then again, none of this stuff is perfect!

and regarding plugins - I think Native Intrument - will be releasing some guitar dedicated modelling suite (amp, cabinet, mic positioning) soon (think tommorow - on MusikMesse show)

I know the opinions of Behringer on here, and for the most part I agree with them, but you might want to check out the Behringer V-amp. I picked it up recently and was pleasantly surprised at how good it sounded.

and at $199, it's 1/3 the price of the Pod Pro. Definately a good value.
