That's some crazy shit man.

Marshall Stack = Metal.

Of course there are many other amps good for metal, but probably none are more universally associated with Metal over the years, than Marshall.

What ever amp Scott Ian used to make this demo recording for thier last studio album. I posted a clip here for you to listen to. Sample

I think it is a Randall...I will ask him though to be sure.

you sir, indeed, have been thrown out of the true metal up your ass league!

Well i was really talking about a specific division of metal like i said. One which is not infested with marshalls. I just hate that *marshall* distortion sound. Its just...a bit shit really.

you clearly never said a specific division of metal. anyways, which kind of metal is it?

How about Black Label Society.

I think a better question would be whens the last time you saw a metal band not playing through a marshall. atleast half play them.

Okay okay, perhaps some of the newer metal bands, like the Nu-metal school [ are they still part of the game  ] do not use Marshalls, and tend to go more with Peavy or something else, but I'd like to believe that a lot of Rockers [Metal boys if you like] like to use a Marshall.

Yes they are renowed to give you just one sound, but...................isn't that the one we like so much

I have to check now if mine still goes to eleven, you know I really have a small one, and it did not tell you anything in the manual about volumeknobs and what they can or cannot do so.........................will tell you another day what I discovered today!

you clearly have a weird taste or are talking out of your poophole.

Ok, I'm going for option number two

The guys from Killswitch Engage DO NOT use Mesa Dual Rectifiers. They used to use Framis Cobra's... and now they use Hughes and Kettner tri-amps.

Mesa Rectifiers and Krank amps are junk. I used to have a Mesa Dual Rectifier... and it sounds like somebody is operating a chain saw near a bumble bee nest.

bbuuuuuuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Mmm it just annoys me when people are like *MARSHALL! THEY CAN DO ANY TONE!* I fell into the trap myself, first amp i bought was a marshall, my second is one too! They have a pretty big monopoly, i just dont like the distortion for metal. Its far too noisy, and doesn't have enough gain. (cue, *more gain?!! why would you need that. you are obviously an idiot, listen to proper music, tune your guitar back up, etc etc)

You really just have to be more specific. Metal doesn't mean just one thing.
Try an Engel or a Deizel or a krank. If you want to be like everyone else in the last couple years, a Mesa.

I'm sorry..but the 5150 II definitely has more gain than 5150....that is the entire premise of the model. ;)
The 5150 probably has all the gain you'd ever need, but the 5150 II definitely has more.

I thought the 5150 had more gain, but the 5150 II had more features.. My uncle had a 5150 II and my cousin has a 5150 and the 5150 had a more "balls to the wall" sound to my ears.. Either way.. I'd try a few amps and see what you like best.. music equipment is all opinion!

I can smell something...

If the Marshall (say the DSL) does not have enough gain, you indeed are using too much gain. I'm guessing you're age is below 20 and you did not do much recording. I have played down-tuned metal for a while. And you my friend, are one of the neverending supply of "more gain is better" idiots.

disclaimer; you may not like marshall's, which is ofcourse personal taste.

Are you comparing through the same cab or at least the same speaker types?

Thankyou for proving my point.

Dude, nobody in the bands you mentioned uses anywhere near all of the gain that their amps are capable of. They get good tone because they know how to get good tone. Give them a Tube Marshall and they would still get good tone. It is not about gain, it is about know how. It sounds to me like you are an inexperienced player who has never used a very good amp. I can't believe you are even comparing a tube Marshall to your AVT275 or whatever....THAT IS NOT A REAL MARSHALL! Too much gain will sound like shit live, and will sound like shit on a recording. This is not an opinion...it is a fact. Go ask Adam Dutkeiwitz or whatever the hell his name is, he will tell you the same thing. Do some reading on guitar recordings and pay attention to how good bands sound live and you will understand what everybody is saying here. This is not coming from stuffy old dudes that don't understand metal, this is coming from people that know what good amps sound like. I played "metalcore" in a pretty big local band using a Peavey 5150 II and I set the gain on five.....FIVE.....and the master volume on eight. I wasn't using NEAR the gain that it was capable of and yet I had a razor sharp, tear your head off tone. That is how it's done. I used to do the same thing with a Marshall JCM2000 for extreme death metal and had similar results, I just never had as sharp of an attack, but it was still amazing tone. My point is not that I know everything about tone, it's just that I know from experience as well as pretty much everybody else around here trying to give you real information that you are dismissing due to your ignorance on the subject.
