What's this button do?
So I can get a nice set neck, attractive Fender custom tele w/dual humbuckers, or a beautiful Schecter C1 or C1+, or a satin, base model bolt on neck American tele for about the same price. A buddy is hooking me up, and all fall in the $400-$500 range. What would you get for modern rock/pop as a beginning electric guitarist with years of acoustic experience? Maybe something else?

Thanks,
Pete

Try all of those

Also try the PRS Tremonti SE. I picked one up for $368 w/ padded bag and it has yet to dissapoint. I chose the PRS over comparable Shecter and Ibanez models. It's is hard to explain but the PRS has an acoustic like feel to it, yet is able to shred like an animal when needed. Although the deals on the other guitars are sweet and will over time have a higher resale value. Especially the american models..

I'm a tele player, so it's an easy choice for me... But you might also try the strats in that price range. You might find the strat has more "modern rock" sound than the tele.

Like the rest of these guys have said, though, it's all about what feels good in your hands.

dirythermos speaks the truth. if you are going for a modern ballsy, lots of distortion sound you are going to want something with a humbucker pickup. if you are going for more of a bluesy/southern rock sound then you might really like the tele.

Actually, the tele that I am looking at is the Fender Special Custom FMT Telecaster HH, dual humbuckers, candy red, stock and new. Is this unusual? Keep in mind you can feel free to talk to me like a brainless infant when it comes to electric guitar design and technology :D

Well, I have decided on the Fender Special Tele Custom Esquire HH (that is one long guitar name!!) Getting a sweet deal. I'll be picking it up today, thanks to my Uncle Sam.
