You Have No Idea.....
I Feel like i've been doing everything right it seems like Its coming out great but if it can be greater that is my goal!

I set volume levels to get the best sound I possibly can before EQing and adding effects...

Then I add effects like: Compressor, pop/click eliminator, de esser, studio reverb...

What is the best order to do the effects in?! I feel like the order is very important and ive read alot on here i've yet to have people agree on a order. But what are YOUR opinions i'll combine them and make my choice from there.

And should I do effects before OR after I EQ? I'd assume before so that I can EQ for the best sound after right?

AS FOR MASTERING ;)

I EQ everything individually track by track piece by piece... Then i do a mixdown of all the tracks. Correct?

When mastering do you do a mixdown of all the tracks (to combine them) THEN MASTER or master some other way? I planned on mixing them all down then using the skills I have with Ozone 4 to master them with a little help from some how tos I have.

Thanks!!!

when you say mastering i believe you mean mix down cuz mastering aint that.
Mastering means after all the SONGS are completed they are normalized or what have you so all he songs are even throughout the album.

Mixdown is combining all the separate trax into a 2 track stereo mix.

Ya i know what mixdown is.. i was asking if i do a mixdown THEN master or if i master with a plug in through a bus... but i thought when referring to mastering its typically making the track as even as possible and louder

of my knowledge mastering comes after the mixdown. Its like apples and oranges. Ask massivemaster he knows all about mastering.

That can create a lot of problems for you during your final mix.

For example overloaded frequencies sonic anomalies, a big headache.

Oh shit.... Wait.... Ok I have a beat maker that makes All of our beats and he mixes the instruments himself etc. I put his mixed BEAT into track 1 then record on track 2 and move appropriately. After the whole song is recorded I adjust volume levels till they sound good then I do the EQing and effects..

When i mix i am just mixing vocals the chrous the background the adlibs etc... not the instruments at all

So if i have a vocal lets say thats done for 4 bars... Ill take that and completely adjust that lets say a couple DB at 10kz for some clarity(if needed)... Then I take the background and mix it till it sounds good with the main vocal and doesnt sound muddy etc. Then i move on and do possibly the next 4 to 8 bars possibly even the full 16 of the verse.

Am i doing this wrong?! Shit now i need answers

I hope you guys didnt think i meant that I EQ every single instrument and word individually... thats probably what ur thinking. But thats not the case

I think what Harvey was getting at is that you don't want to EQ 'alone' - You should adjust parameters (of almost anything) in the context of the mix.

I'll save my thoughts on Ozone...

Well i got my hands on ozone and i really really really hear a difference when i EQ with it. But what im doing works so far i guess... until someone helps me and tells me how to do it when i ask the questions i guess ill have to stick with what i do now.

you dont master by sticking a plug in on a buss...you bounce it down to a stereo audio file then treat it as a seperate project..

Exactly what i do! Ok awesome I had it right!

your mixing not mastering

And yes I understand that! Thanks guys!

Still trying to figure out the process though.... When do i add reverb when do I eq what is the step by step process?! like step one? step two lol
