All the comments others have made are good. Your track is just a little busy and unfocused. But it's listenable and a real good start. Did you play all the parts yourself or were other people playing on it too? Sometimes when you do it all yourself it makes you kinda nuts from hearing it over and over and you don't know if it's good or bad anymore.Just hang in there and write another song!

Thanks Kevin1600, I'm all on my own so the songs do eventually drive me crazy. But I've had such bad band experiences in the past and I like the freedom.

There's where it all went wrong.

Don't worry about anyone liking your songs. Chances are most people won't - unless it's some vapid, radio freindly garbage. Your defeatist attitude is actually correct. Don't be naive. You're most likely not gonna become a millionaire, and it's very likely that most people don't give a shit about your songs. The sooner you wake up and realize this, the sooner you will be able to just have fun making songs for yourself.

I agree with this guy.

Guitars and Vox Fighting

Hi all,

First off, don't bother listening to my songs again because I haven't updated them yet. I think I have fixed most of the issues on the 2nd song (Ride Like Arrival) that I want to fix, but before finalizing I wanted to be as clear as possible on one of the main critiques. A few people agreed that my guitars and vox were fighting with each other. Answers to this problem suggested I take out some guitar stuff, but for the second song (Ride Like Arrival) I didn't really have too much extra guitar going on during vox parts. I think the comment was mostly directed at my first song where there is too much going on.

But in general, are there any mixing suggestions you may have to give them their own space? I currently have the lead vox panned 15 degrees to the left, the background vox panned 20 degrees to the right, the rhythm gtrs panned 29 degrees to the left, and the lead guitars panned 45 degrees to the right (most of the time). Bass is centered. These choices seemed best in terms of overall sound quality, but if anyone has any hard and fast rules I'd appreciate hearing them. Also, I've EQ'd out much of the low end for all tracks (not high enough in the bandwidth to where I hear any effect on sound), and touched up the vox to make them sound better. One problem is I really don't hearing them fighting too much so I'm not sure what I should hear when I'm getting closer to giving them space.

If you have complex suggestions that you don't feel like explaining, I'd still appreciate some terms I can research on my own.

Thanks as always,
Kerrio

OK, I'll work on few other aspects and post soon.

Thanks,
Kerrio

I actually figured out that I had the main gtr and lead vox on the left, so I moved things around and they sound clear enough to me. I'm pretty much at the mastering stage so I was thinking of just starting a new thread for help in the Mixing/Mastering section after uploading my song, but if anyone has suggestions over there please let me know (I'll post w/n the next hour or so).

Thanks!
Kerrio

Start your new thread in the MP3 clinic if you want people to listen to your song and give advice/feedback/etc.

Thanks,

Sorry, I'll post in mp3 clinic when it's ready.

Thanks,
Kerrio
