Does anyone know where to find more info on this. I have not heard this before. I love my xt20's and various other pieces of Alesis gear.It would be a great loss if they were to fall by the road side

I have talked with alesis-They say they never filed chapter11-they did lay some people offand re structure-but everthing is cool -can't believe every thing you hear

Exactly......... (that's why all press is dealt with by a crisis management PR firm). They are in negotiations to be taken over at present

That's true hatrock, I doubt alesis is going anywhere, just making changes.

man,..the big "A" is wobbling. i got exposed to several pieces of Alesis gear JUST when i was getting serious about home recording. i still own an original S4+ rack mount sound module with the original "Virtual Composer" RAM card. i have the user bank from the FIRST Quadrasynth stored on that card. i love that little synth. the four "Quad Knobs" for real time control were a bit ahead of their time (before it became trendy for a digital synth to have knobs). the early Quadrasynth sounds were much better than the later QS series sounds (in my opinion). i also own the ubiquitous Wedge which is quite unique as well as a Nanoverb and a Nanocompressor, NONE of which have ever given me any problems. the only Alesis item i owned and then dumped was the 3630 compressor (because the gate chattered like a set of those fake plastic wind-up teeth). i've considered the DMPro drum module and still might get one (but as sure as i do Boss/Roland will come out with the DR-2000 or something which will prove to be a superior unit). i also considered the Masterlink and would have bought one had it been priced under $1000 (which it SHOULD have been). But, all in all, my experience with Alesis and it's products have been pretty good. i SHOULD MENTION, however, that Alesis has NEVER answered any of my e-mail inquiries and any time i've ever called their customer support number i've been put on hold for at least 20 minutes. at any rate, i hope they get their act together or get bought by another company that can set things straight. cheers.

air fx what were they thinking

a bad idea can be the death of a whole company with high development costs for a piece of gear that alesis must of thought that the wole music world would go to star trek type gear that anone could play by waving a hand over it

i just hope that the other companies see this as a shining example of what not to market to a demographic of recording people. too bad it ia alesis because i loved thier micro line and nano line and alot of good eqipment came from them.

a good idea is to develop a pod or a line of guitar fx i know just the name would sell them and they can build great ones.

I love my adats and my other alesis gear. It would be a great loss if they were to disapear. I sure that won't happen.the new HD recorder looks great. I can't believe at that price it won't do well. I for one hope they keep on keepin on!!

Thank god, they are dying, I always hated their mensware line......

Here is an Update

As of last friday, Alesis let go about 70% of the remaining 50% of it's employees. they are at about 30 employees now out of over 200. As far as being bought out, It looks like a major manufacturer of DJ equipment is the most likely to be the proud new owner of Alesis, or at least part owner. I won't give names, but they aren't a "NEW" company and they have left their "MARK" in the DJ market.
The Drama Continues!

Did it really happen this time?

I once owned a Numark DJ mixer when I tried my hand at DJ'ing at my sisters wedding! It was crap and so was I at DJ'ing!

I was trying to practice at diplomacy there sjoko2! ;)

I suck at it!

Yeah, Numark is garbage gear. I used to manage a DJ/Karaoke company and we had a few of their mixers around. They were always doing something bad, and they ALWAYS SOUNDED BAD!

I do not see them buying Alesis as an "improvement" for Alesis's already questionable quality control.

O've never been good at diplomacy, so I decided if I couldn't be good at it, I might as well really suck at it instead:>)
and you're right, its downright crap. I think in this case it is whoever puts some money on the table..........

I always figured it is better to excel at something. Lack of diplomacy is my forte! ;)

It is really too bad that a responsible buyer is not in the works for Alesis. For all the faults of that company, they really did have a good thing going, and I felt that they should have had an eye towards INCREASING quality. It seems over the years that it worked the other way with them.

I have a couple Quadraverbs that work flawlessly. But, I also have a Q2 (which by the way sounds superior in every way) which is having some LCD display problems, and one of the Input meter lights blew out. I have seen bunchs and bunchs of problems with the newer XT 20's. On the other hand, except for the normal every 300 hour maintnence, my Type I ADAT's still work killer. My BRC is still in great shape, although, a "row" on the LCD display burned out which makes 0's look kind of funky.

It is little crap like that that really annoys me. But some of the transport problems the newer ADAT's STILL have are very troublesome and make people doubt the reliability of the product line (Alesis claimed to have reworked the whole transport system on the TypeII ADAT's, and maybe they did, but I am not sure that it was an improvement, if anything, backpaddling....:(). These are issues that the company should have addressed immediately if they wanted to stay in business.

I will not even start on their totally fucked up PCR card! Okay, I will. I am sure that some of the ex-exployee's are hanging around the internet these days, and maybe someone responsible for that hack of a soundcard will read this!

THAT CARD SUCKED! I cannot believe that I did over $1200 dollars in computer upgrades, all with an eye of being able to use that card, and STILL it doesn't work! Pops and clicks and digital distortion nasties! Drops out all over the place. Lost locks! EVERYTHING!!!

It was a disgrace for Alesis not to have recalled that product! I paid $420 for that damn card two years ago when it first shipped. It shipped with drivers that didn't work (that came from a level 2 tech support guy! I couldn't believe he admitted it....). I was told by the store I bought it from that they cannot return my money because the included software, Edit, was opened. THAT FUCKING SOFTWARE IS AVAILABLE ON THEIR WEBSITE FOR FREE!!! The store said that Alesis won't give them their money back because it was opened, so I could return it! What a fucking sham! How the hell am I supposed to know if the shit works unless I open it?

I have only talked to ONE person who was able to get the card to work properly, and he was a Alesis Rep who was hanging around here for a bit, so I do not believe even HE had it working right. Everyone else I talked to claimed the same problems I have had all along with the card. I was a fucking trouper and held out for a better computer to make that damn card work. I have fucking SCSI Ultra2 10,000rpm LVD hard drives. These are just short of state of the art, and STILL this card does not work! I have a damn Maxtor Diamond Max IDE 7200 rpm hard drive, which is considered one of the best IDE hard drives on the market for DAW's, and I could get more then 2 minutes of transfer on ONE track!!!

I believe Alesis really lost big on that card, and all the returns. Rather then cutting their losses and protecting their reputation by Recalling that card, they STILL SELL IT!!! It don't work! That is not only unethical, but is also consistent with their increasingly low QC over the years. It would seem that Alesis quit caring about making a GOOD product, and just wanted to get a CHEAP product on the shelf.

They deserve what they got. There may be good people working there, but EVERYBODY who stayed with that company contributed to it's demise by not "stepping up" to whoever made the decisions and trying to convince them to do the right thing and not quitting if they didn't.

Personally, I don't care if the company totally folds. I will probably never buy a new product from them again, unless a very reputable company steps up to buy them out. If Numark is that buyer, I FOR SURE will never buy a new product from them again. I can only imagine how bad QC will be then!

This is a rant! Nobody has to agree with it. It just makes me feel good to have a public forum to express myself in. It also feels good to know that some around here trust my opinions. If I sway you away from new Alesis product, then I feel I have done a civil service to you!

Ed

Sonusman, make that two people whose card works, I dont have a problem with mine, musta got lucky, all I hear from anyone else is nightmares. It wouldnt work on my compac presario but since I bought my new computer I havent had a problem. They could have informed me better as to its capabilities, i.e. not being full duplex etc.
