I've been liking what I'm getting out of the mindprint d.i. port a lot these days.

These are some good pres. And good converters. What gives? How come only a handful of us know about this company? Why aren't they in every freakin' home studio? :)

Stop me, someone. I'm becoming a freak.

I have one too, i like it alot.. :)
your no freak, just a new member of our esoteric club of happy customers ;)

I have the MindPrint. Fantastic mic pre and the converters are decent for sure. One of the best pre's on a snare I've ever used.

What are we comparing this thing to, here? A mackie or a Neve, API, Meek, etc...

Well, since I've neither owned, used, or worked with a Neve or API, the only reference I have to compare it to are Mackie, Meek, ART, Presonus, M-audio, Grace Design, dbx, and Focusrite (Green, Platinum).

I know I should of got it from you. Now that you've found out just how schweet they are, I s'pose it's not for sale. Glad you're digg'n it.

Yea, I'm afraid there's not a chance, t.

This thing stays. For now. I'll let you know when my ship comes in along with my Great River and Apoge converter, but for now, this little bugger (d.i. port) more than handles the job.

Yo' Chess, what was the street price of your unit!!??

Well, Jusum Pilgrim tipped me off a few months ago that Sam Ash was blowing them out for $200. I don't know if that thing is still going on, but honestly, when I went in there, they didn't even have one on display I had to describe how it looks, because no one there even knew what the hell it was. :)

I now find out it has the same AKM converters as the Lynx One sound card, which keeps getting all these ungodly good reviews for it's sound. And it has two of the same Class A preamps as the Envoice.

It over-achieves in a big way. It's probably not on par with a $2,000 preamp or converter, but it is certainly in a whole nother stratosphere than a $200 or even $500 one.

How does it compare to the Grace?

I've never compared them head-to-head on anything. But indirectly, I've compared them both to Mackies. And to me, they both have that "better-than-mackie" sound, if that means anything. :) When I borrowed the Grace briefly, I kind of got depressed that I had to give it back. But now, I wouldn't want to give up my d.i. port, either, come to think of it.

If your sound card has codecs or any of the other pre-akm converters, or if you're using a portable multitrack recorder with a digital input, then I would go out on a limb and say you will get more out of the d.i. port than you would with the Grace, because the akm converters will be an improvement.

Strictly in terms of the preamp alone, the Grace is in a different class, I'll admit. If you record mostly with condensers, then I think you'd be just as happy with either. If you play around at all with ribbons or dynamic mics, you'll really like the way the Grace compliments them. Particularly dynamic mics like the sm7, sm57s and 58s. There is a definite difference there. I'm not sure if a mindprint is an ideal choice for dynamics, and I am guessing it would suck on ribbons because of it's high impedence.

Holy Sh!t, I did not know that. But I'm brainwashed too, so that's a happy discovery. Like you, I got this for $200 from Sam Ash b/c of JuSum's tip.

I actually ordered it from the Web (there are no Sam Ash stores where I live) ... I don't know if there's any left in a back room somewhere? Interested parties, maybe check it out.
