I have recently purchased a Tascam 1508 mixer and an Alesis XT20 Adat unit. When I connect the unbalanced outputs (rca) to the tape inputs of the Tascam (rca), the signal is too low to use. If I connect the Adat's outputs to the line ins on the Tascam, they can be used but I have to use full gain on the trim. I don't remember having this problem a few years ago when using this combination (however, I may have been using just an XT not an XT20). Could this be a problem with the XT20 or the 1508?

Strange,... I'm assuming the ADAT levels are pretty hot yeah?

Is the unit in GWO?
Is the Line in introducing noise?

Yep the record levels are plenty hot. I found the problem, I opened the case and one of the caps on the ADA board has blown out so I am guessing that this is affecting the output level. Can't repair it (the traces themselves are burnt off) and have now schematic to tell what kind of cap is used at that point. Been looking for a dead XT20 to take the board or someone who would sell just the board.
