Man, I have a pair of Monitor Ones that sit hear collecting dust. A bass player couldn't afford any more time in the studio to finish up so I gave him some time in trade for them.
Like ALL the Alesis monitors I have previewed, they have NO low midrange presence that even resembles accuracy. Must be why most people that mix with Alesis monitors tend to apply too much in the low mids and subs. I gave
the Monitor One a very fair chance against NS 10's and Event 20/20's, and they just didn't stack up at all. Way too much guessing. What sounded good on them DID NOT translate at all on other playback systems. Very sad indeed.
So, they sit. Actually, they sat for about a year and I recently broke them out because I needed something at home to listen to music on. They worked the last time I used them, but guess what? One of the horns don't work now! I have NEVER blown a horn in my life! Both horns worked a year ago, and they were stored in a very dry, dust free room. Now one of the horns don't work.
Chalk this up to yet another quirky problem with Alesis products. I don't have ONE single piece of Alesis gear that doesn't have some type of weird problem. QVerbs with display problems. BRC with a display problem. ADAT's that all of a sudden freak out. PCR card that cannot transfer tracks for long enough to transfer a whole song. etc.......
So aside from THOSE problems, I think you are making indeed a very bad decision purchasing such small monitors. They would be fine if everyone listens to your music on them too, but that isn't real life. Check into the Events if you want something that will translate better.
