This is definitely a “one-of-a-kind” item. It may be the only one in existence.

The “Director” was a product developed by Alesis but never brought to market. It was displayed at the 2004 or 2005 NAMM show. The device was designed as a remote control for the ADAT HD24 and HD24XR digital recording systems. The unit I have for sale on eBay was a test unit or a prototype at the Alesis offices in Culver City CA, prior to their move to Rhode Island.

Upon power-up, this unit immediately enters a testing mode. Whether it can actually be made to work, I have no way of knowing. There is no manual that I am aware of. A query I sent to Alesis regarding the unit went unanswered.

If you know a brilliant audio electronics and software geek, perhaps they can get this device to function as intended. I am unable to get it out of the testing mode. There is no guarantee that this unit will function with your hardware. If you can get it to work, you'll be the only one on your block who has one in operation.

The listing went up today (9/15/12). In the eBay listing there's also a link to a YouTube clip showing the power-on and test sequence.
