Hi everyone. I just discovered this site this morning, and it looks awesome. I am in the market for a home studio setup. I have focused on getting an ADAT. This is where some questions arose. I am in need of some help as to what mixer I should look at. I know I need something with 8 outs for the ADAT, but am unsure what to look at. I have heard nothing but praise about Mackie mixers, but I can not afford one of the 8 bus studio consoles. Can I use something along the lines of the VLZ series? I saw that the 16xx had 8 direct outs on it. Can this be used with an ADAT? Is this something you guys would reccommend??

thanks

Hey dude, welcome to the site, I have a adat setup and use the 1604-vlz pro mackie. its a very nice setup, very clean sounding, just right for eight tracks, pretty compact too, been using mackie for four years now, without a bit of trouble.

thanks! do you happen to use any kind of pc editing software with your adat?

I have the Mackie 1604vlz also and it works
great with the adat. I bought the adat pcr
card to drop the tracks into my pc and am
using adat edit, cakewalk and cool edit.
When you format your tapes make sure you format them at 44100 not 48000 or you will
have to convert all the songs later to make
a cd, I learned the hard way!
