I have a problem when I’m recording using my Alesis Firewire 12 Channel mixing desk.

I’m using Pro Logic Express, G5 Mac and connecting via the firewire cable.

When I record anything through the desk, there is an effect that is on when I’m doing the recording. The effect is a reverb type of sound.

If I press the “solo” button on the channel, the effect disappears but I can’t hear what’s being played back through the MAC, so for example, If I’m singing along to a backing track, the backing track can’t be heard.

I don't know what the problem is, I've pushed and twisted all of the buttons I can see, I believe the problem is with the desk, I know it’s only a tick box on the settings somewhere, isn’t it always.

I’ve gone through a lot of the setting in Pro Logic, but it’s now getting frustrating.

Can anyone help?

what you are hearing could possibly be a lot of latency (time it takes for audio to be sent to computer then back again to monitors/headphones)

so basically you hear your sound as it goes into the desk then the audio again after its processed by your computer. when you press the solo button you are only hearing audio which is going into the desk and not the processed audio.

me and a friend had a alesis firewire mixer and i cant remember if it came with its own program (to change settings etc...) if you have got it try changing the sample rate. also change the sample rate and buffer size in your DAW (cubase, pro tools) until you find your sweet spot. this should decrease latency. latecy can also be caused by not having a powerful enough computer, but your G5 should be more than ample. but remember even the fastest computer out there will still have latency (just not that much to notice)

having said all that it may just be your onboard effects button is on. make sure the knob (on the track you are using) which controls the amount of effect is also turned down. The onboard effects are actually pretty nice on the alesis firewire gear.

hope this helps

good luck
