Alesi LX 20 - Condition new - Buy it or not?

Hey guys!!

I have a Boss 1180 recorder and have a opportunity to buy a used but OK LX 20. Do it or not?

Is it useful?
For how long tapes will be in the market?
How long lasts a tape head in normal use?
Is changing heads expensive?
Or just forget it...?

Depends on how much they want for it and what kind of shape it's in. Find out how many hours are on the heads. I've recorded a shit load of music on the pair of LX20's that I have.\ and I loved them.
As far as the future availability of the recording medium, they use S-VHS tapes which will be around for a few more years but that's definately a valid question.

Well, the machine ( I just checked ) has 114 hours head use and is in a good cond. Clean and look like new.

Is 144 hours too much? What is the "change-head" time?

144 is a very low rate for a used ADAT.
the head changing time may vary, but usually is above 3000 hrs.
I own a blackface ADAT I bought a month ago, in a good shape, and with transport/head news. Great sounding and years ahead my pal's boss record ( that one with zip disks).
