I bought an AKG Perception 200 about a year ago and really like the sound. However, the last few times I've used it I've noticed it cutting in and out. I'm singing along and all of the sudden it cuts out for a second or two. I'm sure it's not my cable or phantom power. Can anyone direct me to a fix or mod I can perform on this mic? Thanks in advance for the help.

When rehearsing and recording. It never did this before.

Crack it open and check wires/connections. That would be my first step.

So time to try a different cable or try the mic out elsewhere?

Tried a different xlr cable and their was no change. I tried my Samson co2's and had no problems with thoes. So I think it's the mic itself. Oh well. I guess Ill call AKG to see if they have a kit or something.

Did a google search and found no help. I emailed AKG yesterday in hopes for some advice.

Well if you had a DMM (Digital multimeter) and a audio probe(Basicly a little amp wioth a metal lead on it you can use to trace were the signal stops) you might be able to figure it out ....

With the DMM you can check that the Capsule is getting the correct polarizing voltage , check the the Fet is getting the correct voltage and the bias is correct .....

With the audio probe you can check that the capsule is putting out a signal , check that the signal is reaching the fet and the signal is leaving the fet and basicly follow the signal to the output to determine which component has failed .....

it"s a bit of work and take a bit of knowlege but not impossible .....

Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I might try to work on it this weekend.

Does this make sense?

I called AKG and was told they do not make replacement parts for this mic that if I wanted to send it to them they would send me out a new one for 150 to 200 Has anyone ever dealt with this?

Well you've had it for a year and they have absolutely no way of knowing whether or not the mic was abused.
They are offering to sell you another for $150-200.
That's about the price of this mic in today's market.
They probably intend to have a peak at the old one and maybe give you a break if they find fault with the manufacturing.
Up to you.

Ya, I mentioned that I could buy another one for that price elsewhere and the guy said yes that's true. So I guess they just want to see what went wrong with it to see if it was a design flaw or something of that nature. I actually bought it from musicgoround last year, so before then I have no idea of it previous life. Oh well.

Kind of changes everything.
Ah well. Hope you didn't pay too much.
