I just bit the bullet and ordered these thru sweetwater (saved me around $40). I read many reviews and they all were glowing. They are isolation headphoes - keep out ambient noise and keep noise from leaking out. Excellent for tracking acoustic guitars and for getting up close to an amp while moving the mic around without going deaf. They also mute when you take them off - but will not mute if 1 ear stays on (ie for tracking vox with 1 cup on 1 cup off).

Anyone tried these bad boys or have a pair? Thoughts?

Yes... I have a pair... I like them... but they are one of several.

If isolation is what you are after... you may be disappointed. On my head, they don't isolate as well as the AKG171 or Sony7506.

FWIW, the AKG171 isolates very well, has a hyped Hi-End, which really cuts through while tracking, but not as comfortable as the AKG271 or Sony7506. IMO, the 271 or 7506 is a better tracking headphone.

The AKG271 is basically built like the AKG240.

IMO it's worth the price and is a quality headphone.

I would characterize the AKG271 as:
Smooth Hi-End
Slightly hyped mids
Balanced low end
Fairly reliable overall sonic representation...

I just bought a pair a couple weeks ago. Haven't had a chance to do much with them yet.

I bought them from Music123.com. They were advertising about 5 pair on eBay. Starting bid was $139. I got a pair for $143 plus shipping.

I use them everyday and like them very much. They are very detailed and rather accurate, great sounding. Be careful though as they have the high end a bit exaggerated to the taste of many. I personally like them very much and surely recommend them !

Also, notice that the K240 have 600ohm impedene which means you can't use them with most mixers.
