AKG C1000S as a drum overhead

We're doing a session this week, and the studio we're using is going to be using AKG C1000S mics for overheads. Now I've used these mics before to record acoustic guitars, but never on drums. I read a little online about these mics today, and it seems that the mic comes with a presence boost adapter (a little black piece of plastic) that fits over the mic membrane.

My question is that if you've used these mics as drum overheads, did you use the presence boost adapter or just the mic by itself?

The mic has a fairly flat freq response, and in the AKG documentation I've been reading, it says the presence boost adapter is a good idea for recording overheads, but I wanted to see what you guys think.

black plastic thing

I have used these for overheads for a while now, and
the black little plastic thing that comes with the C1000S, is to change the
pattern to Hyper Cardioid from Cardioid when you place it over the capsule.

edit:
My AKG did not come with a presence boost adapter, (PB-1000)
it came only with a (PPC 1000), thats the confusion.

Anyway I really like the sound of using these to overheads!
I only use the (PPC 1000) adapter and X/Y micsetup, works great!

Well considering that most people hate these mics because they have a very hyped freq response (not flat at all) and can actually be very anoying to the ear, they suggest them against not only most everything but especially agaist drum overheads. If they do in fact come with something that gives them a presence boost I would highly recomend not using it. You are right to want mics with flat response as drum overheads, so I'd say that the C1000s are not a good choice in the first place, but I'd highly recomend not to make it worse.

I used them as drum overheads once...Didn't like it very much. They're fantastic on distorted electric guitars. For natural sounding accoustics...not so much.

I have seen MANY mics that show a "flat frequency response". They all seem to sound very different when used on the same source!

There are NO RULES when it comes to recording. The "presense boost" might or might not be a good thing for that mic. You won't know until you try it. It probably won't take more than a few seconds to remove them, so it should impede your session much to try a short take each way and decide.
