The C1000S is my go-to mic for recording banjo....everything has its use!

Mmmmmmmmmm, banjo.

You

You could possibly record yourself singing and playing in a deadened area then run the tracks through a decent speaker into the bathroom and record the bathroom sound and blend it with the dry signal. Its basically just another crap shoot but its a possible way to get some control over the amount of reflection without having to worry about getting the sound right at the same time as your performance.

I feel that experiments are crucial, but also never disregard years and years of experience either. If there is a common belief it is best to investigate how the belief came to be common before disregarding it. If you start out going anti-pro and anti-conventional you will find yourself slowly becoming more conventional in the end anyways as you learn through experience that some things just sound bad. Some great ideas just sound bad for a reason you couldnt predict when you set out.

But i hope you get a good sound though and remember that 90 percent of your feel and vibe comes through in performance, the mics only paint a portrait of what they thought they were "hearing" as you performed the song. Mics are DUMB. They dont know the good sounds from the bad sounds you have to make them work for YOU (somehow).

the reason i am choosing that specific model is beacause my multirtack hasnt got phanton power whereas that microphone (c1000) has a 9v battery option. otherwise i would opt for an omni pickup microphone if i had a mixer that supports phantom.

That shouldn't be a reason fro selecting that mic. You can get a separate (very inexpensive) 48v phantom power source for any 48v phantom condenser mic. Then you could use any condenser mic with your non-phantom preamp.

If you still want a self powered condenser, consider the Rode NT3 instead of the AKG C1000s.

Finally, someone is placing a C-1000 where it belongs.......in the crapper! :D

I suppose that was inevitable........... :D

MXL makes a couple of battery powered condensers. MXL V63BP and MXL V57BP.

The C1000's could work pretty cool for this. I have done this basic thing, though on a bit larger of a scale. Used one C1000 for a close mic on the guitar, as well as an SM 57. Also included an MXL Vocal mic, then I used another C1000 for a room mic. I am not sure exactly how bright your bathroom is, so it may be a little more harsh thatn you want. Not knocking the idea, I tihnk that is the best way to record, live with natural reverb, but another room may serve you better.

well, if the ONLY reason you're buying a c1000s is the power issue (i personally think it's a very clear, versatile, useful mic), then why not just spend $60 on an ART MP tube pre? it'll sound warmer and clearer than the onboard preamps on your multitracker, and then your choice of condenser mics is unlimited. just a thought.
