Anyone using this combination have any comments? Good, bad? I've got a Digi 002 and I'm about to get an MBox and I like the quality/portability with the S/PDIF option. I'm looking for a high quality pre+mic combo under $2500.

The converters in the Mini-me are top notch; and you could use it with your 002 as well for an additional set of pre's/input channels as well as a master clock. I don't have that particular mic, so can't comment there. The pre's in the Mini-me are good, but not stellar. They can be a bit noisy at high gain levels. But for the conversion and clocking, I think it's a good unit.

m-box monitoring latency eats my but
(and i love protools)

You might want to look at the Lunatec V3 from Grace Designs. It will run about $1300, has SPDIF, Grace mic pres and is very portable. It also has M/S encoding, which can give you more options for recording. I have looked at this myself and would be interested in hearing from somebody who has one.

Thanks JPS, that looks cool. I'm interested to hear from anyone who has experience with it as well. I know a guy who loves his Grace 201...different unit but I would assume the company is consistent. Also giraffe what's your computer?

I'm a fan of the MiniMe... "Plain" sounding (which I like most of the time), and very useful.

i don't own an m-box. and it's part and parcel to the design of the m-box
(monitoring latency) and wouldn't be effected by the computer anyway.
get something with a fire wire (IEE19394????) interface.

The m-box has a zero latency monitoring option. It's the only digi LE interface that does.

i have a friend that owns an m-box, and it is possible that he dosn't know what he's dooing.

but do you own one?
any time i've gone over to his house to goof off i've had the choice of not hearing myselfe in the headphones, or hearing myselfe with a very noticeable delay.

if he's dooing something wrong please tell me because he NEEDS to know.
if i had to deal with what he does it would drive me nutz.

Yes, I have one. On the front, there is a mix knob. Turned all the way to the left, you're monitoring the signal input to the mbox. Turned all the way to the right, you're monitoring the outplut only. By blending it you can get a zero latency signal from the output during tracking.

yea...... i think he uses that nob for monitor volume or something(?????????)

i'll have to pay more attention next time i go over.
i still think i'm missing something (odviously)

If he has the user guide it's explained pretty well there. If not he can get the info off the digi site.
