hey, I'm starting my own home studio and i am looking for a decent dynamic, something like an sm57 (amp cabs, maybe drums and live backing vocals) but i need something cheaper, I saw some sennheiser or akg (i think they were d880) pack of two for about 80 bucks but i wonder if those work decently on instruments as well

also, what do u think of cad glx3000 (large diaphargm, multipatern condenser)? it's worth the bucks to have the omni option, or i could buy a sp b1 (cordioid) as a better option?
and would any large d. condenser work (at least fine) on a drum kit?

i'll apreciate any answer, thanks!

the es-57 is a sm-57 copy that is very well made, and sounds a lot like the 57. it is extremely worth getting and holding onto even if your mic collection grows. you can get one for $30 or 3 for $80. heres a link.

(1) Check out the GLS-57 and 58 mics at speakerrepair.com

(2) If you can still get the GXL3000 for its recent sale price of $70 (with shockmout), it's a bargain---but you'd probably also be happy with the cardiod-only SP-B1 (or the CAD M177).

I'll join in, I have 1 SM57 but if there are enough positive opinions on these 57 knockoffs, I'll pick one or 2 up for $60.

worth while?

Another plug for the ES57. I've got 2 Shure SM57s, and I still bought a 3 pack of the ES57s from Speaker Repair. (I also got 3 of the 58 style mics.) While they're obviously supposed to be "clones" of the Shure's, they're good mics in their own right. Even if I got 3 more Shure SM57s, I'd still keep the ES57s.

I ordered 3 as well. I figure them to be a good foundation of what mics to get from here on out. I've gotton a few good guitar sounds from the 990 but maybe it's just my ears if it gets such shit reviews.

Anyone know if there's a Canadian dealer/retailer for these mics?
