Advice on mics for a beginner please!

Listen to these guys, they're giving good advice. It makes a lot more sense to get SOME kind of condensor mic instead of another 57. It will give you substantially better sounds off of the cymbals and you may find other uses as well. It's good to have more colors to paint with so to speak.
 
I can tell ya this man,

Im using two Sm58's for overheads, and a 3rd one for my snare!


Haha, all I have are 4 58's and a beta 52.

58's SUCK for overhead mics. they pick up WAY too much snare drum. it throws everything off. im finding most of my snare sound is coming from the overheads rather than the snare mic itself.

If I had money, i'd DEFINATELY buy a set of condenser mics. but ya know....money is tight when you're an unemployed teenager!

Mate.... do anything you can to get a condenser.
Gidge is right.... your first condenser is like WOW!
Then you just want MORE!!!!!! :D

Your drums will sound lifeless if you use a 57/58 as an overhead.
